Can you (or anyone) shed some light on this. I watched a WCW PPV the other night (can't remember which one) and Chavo came out with a hobby horse (that's what we call them in the UK anyway) and I think it's name was Pepe (but I may be wrong). He would speak to the horse and I remember the commentators saying something about Eddie driving Chavo to madness.

You're right. Chavo went insane around early 1998. He then entered a feud with Norman Smiley which saw the horse going through a wood chipper.

I loved Pepe, Chavo got a bigger rub out of this than I ever would have guessed.

The part you all have wrong is that it started out that Chavo wanted nothing to do with Eddy, so he PRETENDED to be insane.
Then after it took off WCW f***ed it up and made Chavo REALLY insane.

I remember it differently, Chavo really wanted Eddie's attention, but Eddie would have none of it and eventually this made Chavo go bats*** crazy.

WCW really should've capitalized by selling Pepe's to the fans. Oh, and this was before Moppy. But yeah, they were basically the same angle. Even the same woodchipper ending.
Then again, they were both takes off the old "teddy bear/bad guy tears it apart" angle, which is oldschool. In fact, it was first used by Lou Thesz and Karl Gotch. Only the teddy bear hadn't been invented yet, so they used a real one.

My memory is a bit hazy, but as I remember it. Eddy and Chavo, had a match where if Chavo lost he'd have to start doing whatever Eddy said. I remember him walking around in an "Eddy Guerrero is my favorite wrestler" shirt, and eventually Chavo just went nuts with everything Eddy was asking him to do.
On a related note didn't Chavo become some kind of salesman after Pepe died?

Pepe vs. Moppy vs. Head vs. Eugene's teddy bear.
Four way dance.
WrestleMania XXIII.
That's money, baby.
Jed Shaffer ~And they all have a better workrate then Batista.

Which was sadder, the chipping of Pepe or the chipping of Moppy? I remember crying when Pepe became mulch (much sadder then the ending of TITANIC) but I felt nothing when Moppy met that fate. I think Saturn over sold it.
And this thread opened the wounds. I'm off to hit the sauce. Cue the music

I would mark out if Chris Benoit brought out Pepe to get inside Chavo's head.

I still remember that and thought it was hilarious. At least WCW had the good idea to end it when they did. Funny as it may have been sooner or later the joke would have went the Eugene route and ended up making the fans hate him.

To start the insane angle, he shaved his own head while having a crazy look on his face.
