A Link To The Past on the SNES, followed very closely by Link's Awakening on GB.
I Played ALTTP so many times I can pretty much do a 100% playthrough based just on memory. I even bought it on GBA to play it on my Gamecube without breaking out the SNES again.

Zelda II. It's different, and I love it.

As great as the N64 games were, I find they have aged poorly and its very difiicult to play them now because of the blocky graphics and poor textures. I do not have the same problems with the snes and first nes one.

I do not have the same problems with the snes and first nes one. I think that's why I haven't bothered to get into Majora's Mask ever, even when I had a copy. That, and it just feels tedious.

I would say Majora's Mask is my #1 pick. Has a deep dark creepy storyline and it tried to be different but at the same time stayed with the same game play. There's a emotion in the game that can't be described. As the 72 hours tick away, you start to worry. It puts you in a world that you start to care for and will do anything to save it. There's also a struggle that no matter how hard you try, you can't save everyone in the 72 hours. No game I have played has ever given me that felling. Possibly greatest game ever in my book.
Twilight would get a close 2nd for me. I always looked at it as the re-launch for the Zelda games. This was for the ground up and it really does feel like a brand new game but still keeps what makes the Zelda games so epic. I'll admit it's not perfect, but is still great for a Zelda game.
3rd would have to be OOT. Mario 64 was the 1st game I played where I really felt I was in the game. It had freedom! OOT took that and put it in overdrive. It's said by many to be the greatest game of that decade. A game has to rock to do that.
Then I would say ALTTP 4th and Wind Waker 5th

Majora Mask. Some people say its not good as Ocarina of time, but for me its better, such fun and creepy, and all the masks.
WW,it was so fun and creative, including the graphics, and it gave you a sensation of freedom trought the game.
And of course Twilight Princess, addcting game with the best partner of the series.

Link to the past. A lot of the SNES games were of the nature of "This is how this NES game would have been with better graphics and technology." This was a good example of that. 3-D kind of messed this up, as a lot of game genres had to be redesigned from the ground up (RPG's being an exception, as those game mechanics really predate video gaming, now I'm not saying they weren't tweaked, but I could see FF7 working in 8-bit, whereas Mario 64, would not). Sadly, the creators of Mega Man never understood that.

Link to the Past is the greatest game period.

Link to the Past was the first great Zelda game. Ocarina of Time took everything that game did, improved on it, and did it all in 3d on top of that. So my choice would be Ocarina.
Granted I've only played the console games, but I don't love any of the others anywhere near as much as those two. The NES games were decent but overrated. Majora's Mask was an amazing and very creative game in its own right, but suffered from being a tad tedious at times. Wind Waker was a solid game with amazing art direction, but it was ultimately undermined by its nonexistent difficulty and mindnumbingly boring Triforce Shard Hunt. And Twilight Princess was easily the most forgettable game in the series. It's still kinda amazing to me that Nintendo could spend that much time developing the game only for it to turn out so.....uninspired.

1) Link's Awakening 2) OoT 3) MM
LA was the first Zelda game I ever played, and introduced me to the wonders of glitches (including when I had to restart an otherwise flawless run because I screen warped into Eagle's Tower and got stuck in the door trying to leave), plus I liked its Item Trade quest line the most.

A Link To The Past is the only Zelda that's ever grabbed me and said "LISTEN HERE, MOTHERf***ER; YOU SHUT-UP, SIT DOWN, AND PLAY ME ALL DAY EVERY DAY!!"
I really like Ocarina and always thought the originals were cool, but to me there is no comparison. I loved that game. It's a true SNES masterpiece.

this was tough for me... I liked all of them except for Majora's mask for some reason... <_< >_> Also I started playing t3d dot game heroes for the ps3 recently it feels like they made a Zelda game... and then went to get permission to actually publish it But it's pretty awesome in it's own right.
