Uh-oh...SportsCenter may have just gotten sued...

So, as many of you know, Sunday morning's SportsCenter is hosted by a team that has one Johnathan Coachman on it. That's right. Coach is hosting SportsCenter on Sundays, and he's not bad. However, I think he might have crossed a line during the discussion of Tim Lincecum and his difficulties this season. Here's the basic exchange:

Co-host who looks like Det. Lassiter on Psych: ...he even tweaked his entrance music back to Electric Feel...
Coach: you know, I used to have entrance music...
Lassie: I'm sure you did

Then halfway through the highlights, Coach launches out with an "are you ready?"

We all know how much of a sense of humor the WWE has with this sort of thing, and they'll probably let it go, but did Coach go a half step too far?

Uh, no. First of all, coach admitting he had theme music and admitting he worked for the WWE isnt an issue at all, and "are you ready?" is a common phrase, its not even copyrighted.

They've made reference to him being in WWE before. They used to harp on him more often about it when he first started, not to mention it was referenced alot when there was the Kroenke/McMahon feud over the Nuggets stadium being used. In fact, it was Coachman who interviewed McMahon about it and Coachman kept trying to keep his composure, like he was interviewing a real jackass. If the WWE was gonna jump them about it, it would've been a long time ago. Not to mention whenever the Wrestlemania celebrity train gets goin, ESPN tends to give it some coverage (the only TNA coverage they've ever given was to the Pacman Jones controversy).

Actually quite a few companies have filed a trademark application for "Are You Ready?" including Criss Angel, the Rawlings Sports Company, and the STARZ! movie network.

But no, WWE isn't one of the companies listed. The closest I could find was an application by someone wanting to use it for combat/cage fighting.

John Cena has heat because he appeared on Sportscenter as John Cena. He was told to use a disguise and a different name but WWE officials weren't satisfied.

I'm not sure how easily WWE could file a trademark on it considering it's parody from Michael Buffer.


And I believe WWE is happy for Coach. Although it was a loss for them, it helped bridge the sports entertainment to sports gap, even a small bit.

All of the annchors on SC have a gimmick or catchphrase, and since Coach is from WWE, he's got a built in one. WWE has a good relationship with Coach, and it gets them free mentions onn SC, so I doubt they'll make any move against him.

They make wacky little wrestling references on SportsCenter all the time. There was some football player last night with the initials A.A. So obviously they called him "Double A" and "The Enforcer."
