Off Air Notes From Summerslam Everything you didn't see on PPV!
Just got back from SummerSlam at the Fleet Center TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA. Here are some off-air notes for what the cameras may have missed:
The doors didn't open until about 7:10pm, so people were still filing in up until the opening match.
Dark Match: Carlito d. Rob Conway with the Back-cracker. Fast paced opener that saw some impressive moves from Carlito and some punching from Conway. Conway does not look like he really lost any mass. Crowd was hot from the get-go and was really into this match. Carlito got loud pops for everything he did and Conway even managed to get a loud "Conway Sucks" chant directed at him.
Lillian came out to sing the national anthem, followed by a two minute countdown and the opening pyro. I'll just fill in the missing details from this point on.
After Vickie Guerrero pushed Rey Mysterio on the top rope, she landed hard on her knee and was limping on it all the way to the back. Rey stayed in the ring for a LONG time afterwards selling the frog splash.
Sabu also stayed in the ring for a while after his loss. Everyone else left the ring, but Sabu stayed behind and then walked away doing the finger point. The ECW match was the only one where they turned down the house lights. There was a large ECW chant before the match when they were playing the old ECW theme music.
Mic Foley got a good clapping ovation after his match. There were definitely mixed Foley/Flair chants throughout the match and post-match.
While Shawn Michaels was talking to Kane (we couldn't really see the screen or hear well in the arena, so when Kane came out later it was a complete shock), the ring crew removed the top canvas and had a fresh layer underneath. It would appear the McMahons need all the Flair/Foley blood taken away, but it is OK for Batista and King Booker.
It was very clear to us that Shawn Michaels' right arm was not moving at all. With all the posing, his arm just looked like it was dead in the socket.
I can't even begin to explain all the crowd reaction for the Edge/Cena match. The entire arena would break into a "Let's go Cena!" chant, and then whenever he hit a move at least half to three-quarters of the arena would boo. I'll get more into this later.
After Edge won and left, Cena stayed behind in the ring on his knees. He got a mostly clapping reaction when he stood up and was applauded on his way out. Lillian thanked us all for coming, the lights turned on, and they started taking apart the set. That was it.
An excellent show live, though I have no idea how it translated on TV. The crowd was loud and strong all night. There were A LOT of little kids there, so it's good to know there is another generation of marks and smarks being brought up.
I'll have a ton more details and pictures in Hidden Highlights this Sunday.
Good night!

Hey, Sinister1...thanks for that! I appreciate it.
And for Warwolf....surely you're not still pissed about the Edge/Hardy thing? Seems like everyone else has moved on. I'm just glad Cena doesn't have the damned belt. My main gripe with Edge is that the freakin' WWE doesn't even acknowledge that he's their champion. They barely mention it on RAW, he never does anything with the belt....I mean, seriously.
Whenever Cena or HHH had the belt, you were never allowed to forget who the Champ was for a second. Now that Edge has got it, you never know it unless you check WWE.com.

But no, my main problem these days is that I just can't get into the idea of him as champion from a fan's standpoint. Cena I can see. Trips, even as much as I was frothing at the mouth for him to drop it, I could see. Hell, I can't stand Booker T right now, but I can see him as a world champion. I can't see Edge as one, so I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the WWE title while he's holding it. Seems like the WWE either feels the same way, or they're just plain going senile.

Just got back from the show. A few things I wanna pass along: As noted above, Carlito was mega over. Why this guy wasnt on the PPV is beyond me. Hogan was over like a motherf***er. There were TONS of people Hogan shirts/dressed up as Hogan. Crowd HATED the ending to both Flair/Foley and Batista/Booker. Particularly the latter. The Diva segment was booed. People seemed to love the DX/McMahons match. They were pretty into it. Edge/Cena was odd, as the crowd didnt seem to know what they wanted. Theyd rabidly boo Cena, then break out a loud 'Let's go Cena' chant moments later. I dont know what people here thought, but I thought it was a very fun show. Not the greatest PPV of all time, but it was certianly better than I thought.

For all intents and purposes...it appears that they agree with you. Of course, I want more Edge as Champion, but the less I see of that goddamned spinner belt, the better. So as you can see, I am conflicted. ;D

Was the Edge/Cena match actually any good? Like did Edge carry it to a good match and stuff?

This show was OK but no title changes, one basic squash(Big Show/Sabu), a schmozz(Booker/Batista), and a cheating win(Edge/Cena) but these were the only title matches. No IC. No Tag-Title Matches, even though the Highlanders challenged the Sissy Squad a few weeks back. Guess they forgot. Anyhoo, the DX match was ok but all in all I give it a 6.

Heard Cena got a "Na, Na, Hey Goobye" chant at the end when he was alone in the ring after the show.

You know it would've been nice if Melina was with the guy who's..you know the I-C Champ, instead of being with Foley the whole time on his jock. Kinda makes him look inferior,IMO. Which is why I laugh when people compare him to HBK.
I thought for sure they would've had Cena get DQed, since they are so keen on protecting him. Him getting pinned was great and there was one guy (or kid) in the front row, jumping up and down with excitement after the win.

I wish Edge would blow up the spinner belt in a trash can (ala JBL and Orlando Jones with the US title) and bring back the original winged eagle belt.
