Where is there any mention of a verbal agreement in that article. It says he was contractually obligated to forfit any ring names or niicknames used while in WWE. That seems pretty open and shut.

You can read over the challenge filed by the WWE at the US Patent and Trademark Office website here; ttabvue.uspto.gov/ttabvue/v?pno=91172270&pty=OPP&eno=1There isn’t any verbal agreement at issue. Christian’s contract essentially gave WWE ownership over every part of the characters that he played. It will be interesting to see whether or not the judge enforces that contract clause when WWE didn’t try to trademark the nickname.

Obviously, WWE is still stinging over the fact that they lost Christian Cage. Since this is technically a verbal agreement on Captain Charisma and WWE used the "verbal agreements are not valid" arguement against Team 3D, I predict that Christian Cage will win this legal battle. I don't think WWE is doing it because they're mad Christian left. I don't think they're really missing him, since they didn't plan on using him anywhere above the mid-card and his main event run in TNA was pretty much a flop.

I hope Christian wins. And I thought his first name was Jason, not William? I hope he does too. And Jason is his middle name, but he goes by Jay. But William is his first name. Yes, I am a nerd

I thought that Christian bought the rights to the name from the indy wrestler and copyrighted it after that. If so, the WWE has no claim to the name. They didn't own it when he was with them, the indy guy did. Buying the rights from the indy guy is what the WWE should have done. How did Cage manage it, but Vince's deep pockets didn't?

if wwe didnt trademark it, then christian (cage) will probably win this.

no matter what wwe says the contract has, if the word "Captain Charisma" is not in contract, then it doesnt matter.

Christian used "Christian Cage" before he joined WWE, so the "Chris Cage" OVW guy doesn't mean anything, for everyone mentioning him.

I am still wondering why he just can't go by Christian. I didn't think that WWE could trademark actual real names, especially since he is/was wrestling as Christian Cage and some religious people might have a problem with a pro wrestling company owning the rights to the word "Christian" You can trademark real names as long as its not your real name. As in you can't copyright Chris Benoit, but you can copyright Christian.
