...yet CSI doesn't get the ratings or hits that key demographic.
You're just being oddly bias. If you don't like TNA that's fine but let's not twist facts to reflect your opinion.

No it does not... You have no idea what you are talking about. Re-runs for shows like csi are 1.5 million dollars PER EPISODE. Even if hulk hogan costs 10 million dollars for a whole year (which i doubt) he'd be more of a bargain than buying a whole season of csi (17 episodes)... CSI is way more popular than Hulk Hogan or TNA and reaches a much braoder demographic. broad demographics are bad for advertisers

I could not disagree more. Like has been said if they were original episodes of CSI you may have a point but TNA even in their darkest time on Thursdays (Not Mondays) rates above the Spike TV Average in its current format. I'm sure they'd be very happy with the ratings they get now.
That said I just can't wait till Sinister sees this topic. I'm sadistic

TNA is heading into WCW 2000 levels of badness. The red flags are getting really obvious. No matter how many times chicken little yells this, I just don't see it.

I like how every time someone in this thread gives a reasonable explanation, the reason Spike HAS TO BE SICK OF WASTING MONEY ON TNA SOON is changed.

TNA does well above the Spike TV average thus they are more then willing to pay for 104 hours of TV that does above the average. TNA also gets them a highly coveted demo on top of the good rating.
If re-runs of CSI gave them top notch ratings (Plus the fact that CSI re-runs do cost money per-showing) then why would Spike TV's average be a lot lower then what TNA brings in?

The "Worse than WCW 2000" crowd really must not remember just how bad WCW was at that point. Eegghh. And this is coming from a pretty big WCW fan!

Not to mention TNA has been pretty solid for 7 weeks or so in a row. This is probably their longest run with no bad shows since the .com days.

More doom and gloom, eh? Trust me, folks. Spike is making money off TNA or they'd be long canceled by now. Even if Spike is paying for the contracts of Flair, Bischoff, and Hogan...that's still like what? 1 million per year? for a major cable company? Wrestling is at least consistent in the ratings, and better than pretty much anything they can get right now, in terms of programming.

so do any of you guys work in marketing? Taking classes in it, why? So people can shoot your opinion full of holes when you tell them you're not actually in marketing. I, personally, don't see why Spike should be upset with TNA when they've shown time and again that they're capable of drawing a fairly consistent Thursday audience that is above the network average. And the fact that they even added another wrestling show to the network (Halfpint Brawlers...*shudder*) would seem to imply that they're pleased with what wrestling is doing for them, because there's a built-in audience for wrestling, and there's a certain number of people who will always watch if it's wrestling-related, even if it's terrible. And the broad demographics argument doesn't work. Sure, reruns of CSI may appeal to more people, but that doesn't help when the key demographic is males 18-49. You put programming that appeals to the demographic to which you wish to appeal. You put CSI reruns from 9-11 on Thursdays and the other demographics you might pick up probably wouldn't even be watching.

Stereotyped wrestling fans are who they gear thier programing towards. Look at the shows they advertise while TNA is on. MANswers, Half Pint Brawlers, The Ultimate Fighter
We can ignore the fact that Impact rates higher than the other shows on the network. I mean that's only a fact an not an opinion so it really has no room for argument here.
Anyway I don't even think the show is that bad now that I've watched a little bit of it again.
I watched it with my 6 year old nephew on Thursday and he was super excited by the things going on in the ring. He didn't much care for the talking parts but during the in ring action he was way into it.

SpikeTV is so fed up with TNA that they're giving them two new shows... yeah...
It sounds like some people want SpikeTV to become the next G4, which has continuous COPS reruns, with no original programming.

None of this is making the point as to why Spike should continue to pay the salaries of Angle/Sting/Hogan if they don't actually provide any additional viewers to TNA's pre-existing fanbase though.
At this the people who will watch TNA will watch it regardless of "star power". Spike WILL get sick of paying for "top draws" who don't actually deliver a quantifiable ratings benefit on the TNA program.
