Assuming the drug bust never happened, who would've eventually took the strap off of RVD? Big Show may have still gotten it, or Angle (assuming he didn't still leave). Less likely but possible candidates would be Sabu (who WWE was pushing pretty well prior to the bust) or Punk.
Or would RVD just have held the title for a long time (possibly past the ECW PPV) to help put over the new brand? Having a champion hold the title for a year or so would certainly put it over, but without any other titles on the show it might get bland.
Anyway, what's the board's opinion on this?

It would have been Lashley and probably at D2D, just as a heel led by Paul.

for some reason I feel like they would have run some sort of injury angle with Van Dam and then run a tournament for the belt but I have no idea why I would think that.

i reckon they were starting to build towards a RVD/Punk feud and he would have dropped the belt somewhere around D2D

Speaking of that, I'll never understand why they didn't go with the Massacre on 34th St. name. D2D was actually the anniversary--to the exact day--of the last Massacre PPV--December 3rd.

It would have been Lashley and probably at D2D, just as a heel led by Paul. Very possible. Of course, it's also possible that Lashley would've faced Big Show (non-champion, since he wouldn't have beaten RVD) and "retired" him. From there, Heyman could have built up to the Lashley/RVD match at WM.

I figured it would have been Angle. Those matches would have been awesome.

I figured it would have been Angle. Those matches would have been awesome. The one they had in ECW was awesome. But for that to draw they would've needed to keep RVD and Angle separate for a few months since they would've given it away on free TV.

Early on in ECW on Sci Fi's run, the most well built up guys outside of RVD were Kurt Angle, Test, Big Show, and Sabu.
My guess is it would have somehow gone to Angle, maybe in a three way dance, if not one on one since they were both face.
Had it gone to a heel and they didn't have to hastily turn Big Show, who was more of a tweener before the title win, I guess it would have gone to Test, since he was rolling upon his comeback.
It seems even more like Test because before Big Show's title win, he was having the semi-feud with Tommy Dreamer where Dreamer was calling him out each week just because he was the biggest guy around. Once show won the title, Test shifted over to feud with Dreamer and it eventually involved the Sandman-Knox feud, which gave us those tag matches they did together.

I actually liked the first two months or so of WWECW. It got progressively worse, mind you, but it definitely could've been something.

I always thought Carlito would've been a good heel in the new ECW (maybe change his music, though). I see him as a vicious egotist who'd bite opponents and get busted open often and have his fro stained red.

RVD would have retained against Test at D2D, lose to Punk at Wrestlemania in a passing of the torch sort of way.

Eh I think he would have dropped it to Show, but later on and then Show would have a shorter reign.

I always thought Sabu would've turned on him and beaten him for it.
