One of things that is always an eye roll to me is how almost every movie or TV show about college basically covers only one thing that's Fraternity life and sex, drugs, and drinking. While no doubt stuff like that exists in college life, it is totally not the ONLY college experience that there is, and wasn't the college experience I had.
The closest I can think of to reminding me of my experience was the short lived Judd Apatow show Undeclared. That's one of the few times that Frats were depicted as being lame. Which was kinda how they were looked at my school, and so it rang true for me.
It seems almost every other depiction of college involves Fraternities being the "coolest thing ever" and everyone dying to get in one to the point that they will do anything to humiliate themselves to get in. I make no argument that that doesn't happen in real life, but that's not what everybody does.
I loved my college years. Me and my friends did our own things and had tons of fun, not that I'm saying our lives were so interesting that there should be a show about it, but there are many stories that can be told about College age kids in movies/TV that aren't just "outrageous" sex comedies.
I guess I thought about this because of the promos I've been seeing for Glory Daze coming on TBS, which looks like it's another recycled we're off to College, lets get drunk and do crazy things at parties, because that means we're in college. Again, I know that part of college exists, but I want to at least see every once in a while a TV show or movie depicting the "other side of college life."

A show about going to Econ at 8am on Tuesdays and Thursdays would be boring.
I agree that isn't all frats and parties, but as the majority of the movie-going/tv viewing audiences aren't college educated - producers want to show the interesting bits, not the real ones.

I didn't care anything about joining a fraternity when I was in high school. I thought they were all cookie cutter people, and what not. That was until my freshman year of college. I met a fraternity that while it had its preppy kids, there was also a mish-mash of folks. There were the one's who were in good rock bands, D&D players, red necks, military guys, nerds, etc. I felt like I would fit in, and I did. While it wasn't as crazy as hollywood depicts, it was pretty damned close. I made bombs, brandished swords against the preppy and jock fraternities (also launched a barrage of fireworks at them), went on road trips, woke up next to strange women...all that and more. I barely survived my freshman year. So, like I said...pretty close to some depicted movies.

If only it depicted the endless study sessions. And people spending weeks on end playing Total War.

I was surprised to find out that intercourse was as easy to come by at college as it was portrayed to be. Like, making a withdrawal at an ATM easy. It was ridiculous.

Yea, I went to Eastern Illinois to visit a friend one night. I took her roommate into the laundry room across the hall... My friend then found the condom wrapper in the garbage the next morning, and I got the "disapproving wife" look from her. We were just friends though, and she wasn't giving it up, so... I took it to her roommate ;D

I always imagined college as it was depicted in Saved By The Bell: The College Years. With co-ed dorms and famous football players in disguise as your R.A.

Honestly I think it depends on your school. A large chunk of the people on my campus are exactly as portrayed. It's a party school.
And then there's Chico.

It's even easier. the alcohol helps, of course. By the second weekend of college, I had a pretty good feel for what "college life" was going to be like. I was just talking to this random girl at some random party and she just blurted out "wanna (expletive deleted)?" I said "yes, I would enjoy that very much." various permutations (not all of them this blunt) of this happened I don't even know how many times. Of course, there is a downside to this, but its negligible.

I'm sure the smaller schools aren't like this, but the major schools, like Ohio State and University of Delaware, notriously big party schools. Now that's a show.

So, you're saying that the "movies" I saw depicting "college life" were more accurate than the "legit" films claiming to represent the same thing? Huh. Who'da thunk it? Also, how friggin' lame am I that I lived in a party house, drank and did drugs with a shit-ton of college students (many of whom were attractive females) and still couldn't get laid to save my life?

A Different World did it and did it well. However, I understand that show is the exception, not the rules. Most of the time shows about college seem like high school with dorms.

Glad I go to a small school. I'm not much of a party person.

Small schools can be party schools, too.
Mine sure as hell is and only has 8,000 students. I honestly think that makes it WORSE :/
