Could he have been a World Champion? I sure as hell think so. I don't think he's ever been better than he was during that time period.
Plus, his theme was godly, and his entrance attire was epic.
He should like...turn heel when he gets back.

As a huge Christian fan I have to say no.
He was really good in this period but IMO he wasn't ready to be a World Champion.

I've never felt Christian was a true blue main eventer.
He was in the right role, then as now. Upper mid, occasional title challenger.
I can't even put my finger on why, he just lacks the 'x-factor' of a main eventer in my eyes.

You mean when he was losing to Booker T and then got beat up the MexiCools?

He was so over at that point. They really should have at least tried to push him harder than they did. Not necessarily win a world belt, but get a main event tryout at least.

As much as I love Christian, I also have to say no. I think he CAN be a main eventer, but not during that time period, and not for the time being. He works best as an upper-midcarder IMO

He should like...turn heel when he gets back. Christian's departure was interestingly timed in hindsight. The Smackdown roster had Orton, Batista, JBL, Undertaker, Guerrero, Benoit, Mysterio, Booker, a rising Kennedy. It really seemed like there wasn't much room to rise. Then Eddie passed away, Kennedy got injured, Batista was put out for 6 months. Then when Angle and Orton were seemingly there to stabilize it; Angle took time off and left for ECW, and Orton was suspended and left too. JBL retired around the same time. Truth be told given that less than 6 months after Christian left, Smackdown was pretty much being carried by Booker, Benoit, Mysterio, and to a lesser degree Taker; Christian might have had a shot.

I'm not sure... but damn if he wasn't the best guy in the company at that point. Brilliant work.

He was close, but his move to SmackDown killed a good deal of his momentum in short order.

I don't think so.
I think TNA thoroughly helped him in his rise. You can tell from before his TNA days, to after, he has definitely matured. He now has the allure that he can be a main eventer in the WWE.
Plus for the two years he was with TNA, he was the man.

Hell yes and he went on to prove it in TNA and he single handedly made that show more entertaining then anything WWE was doing at the time. He was the same character and he even had the same bodyguard/flunkie.

I think he was indeed ready in 2005...and it was that TNA run that proved it. If WWE had given him the same shot TNA did, it would've worked. Everyone I knew was loving Christian in 2005. The fans were ready. The only thing that stopped him was Vince McMahon saying "Nah, not you." Him vs. Cena could've been something that defined the rise of both guys immensely. A great feud instead of what we ended up getting. I would've left too.

As an overall talent, I think Christian was amazing from 05-08, with him being (imo) the best in the world in 07 when he was heading Christian's Coalition. I think hes just as good now, he's just not really showing it (or not being allowed to show it, I suppose). The guy is a magician on the mic, but he hasnt cut a real "Christian" promo since he came back to WWE, and that frustrates me.
As far as the question goes, I think he definitely would have won the belt over time, 06 or 07 probably. And yes, Id really dig a heel turn from him. Im not one to go around screaming that every person should turn heel, I just think that Christian is absolutely phenomenal in that role.

in 2005 he was becoming ready in 2006 he was ready. and in a roster where finlay and lashley were in ppv ME against king booker, i'm sure he could've been a better choice

Yet, he was a main eventer in TNA. He has a lot of charisma, both as a face and as a heel.
Anyway, even looking at his part in the title match at Vengeance 05 still kind of baffles me, though that was a really good match.
