This infuriated me back in the Attitude Era, and it's still depressingly common.
One of the reasons I like Sheamus so much is that he's able to rock the usual, utterly boring "big muscled guy in dark trunks" appearance that Vince fetishizes and STILL looks freakishly unique.

Iron Mike Sharpe wore black trunks. So did Austin. My point is, if you can make yourself stand out in spite of the common attire, then it seems to be easier to find garb that more clearly defines your character. The reason the trunks on Legacy were boring was because Legacy was boring.
It's kinda like something you just have to overcome. "Be better than the trunks or be endeavored." Like that.

The guys who look best in trunks are generally the ones who do something to make their gear match them, like what somebody mentioned with Jericho, Punk, Miz, and the like. Meanwhile there's folks like del Rio and McGillicutty who figure making them a unique color's a cheap substitute, but their gear looks terrible.
As for why the plain, ordinary look works for Orton... Hell, the man's horribly generic, why not his gear?

It's as bad as the theme songs. I've had enough of generic rock songs by c-list bands. Songs should be made specifically for a wrestler. There's not enough cues that are immediately identifable for fans to cheer or boo.

Car crashes
Gong
Orgasm noises
Countdown klaxons
etc, you knew who they were right away.
Miz's "Aaaaawesome" works, which is probably a huge reason he's getting heat and Cena's rap is distinctive but there aren't too many more that are. Sure Orton's is familiar but only because he's been around for a long time but it's still just a generic rock tune that he didn't even want.

To be honest, I think 90% of the roster has a theme that is distinctive enough in the opening seconds to generate a reaction from the fans. Once you get past the first 20 seconds though a lot of them do tend to sound the same. |

I dont really get the point of this thread..... Unless the guys actually look alike face wise, what's the problem? If you can't tell the difference between Nexus members, then, you know, look at their faces, or even their hair, and stop looking at their crotches  |

I don't mind trunks, but I'd just like to see different color combinations. HHH's biker shorts were godawful, but the red/blue/purple worked for him.
Hell, or at least a usual color scheme for certain wrestlers. Dibiase should always be in some green.

If we look at the current list of champions, Ziggler's probably the only one without an incredibly distinctive entrance music, and even his is pretty recognisable. Is anyone going to get mixed up between the music of Kane, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan and Cody Rhodes?  |

Austin got away with compeltely plain black trunks (with no logo or design whatsoever) because it was part of his character. He wasnt bothered by fancy designs. He was the everyman who is just gonna stick on some plain black boots, some plain black trunks and come and whoop your ass.
Sheamus wore Green trunks and arm bands at a PPV a few months back didnt he?
And where has his fiery red hand gone ?? =(
