Is about to surpass Jack Swagger's, which means that other than the Undertaker's 140 day reign from HIAC 09 to EC 10, Kane will have the longest World Title reign since Edge back in 2007
This brings up 2 issues:
1. How awesome is it that Kane is getting this lengthy, dominant title run?
2. How sad is it that a World Championship's average length since Edge's reign from 07-08 is only about 50 days?

I f***ing love Kane. This is awesome.
But... Yeah, 50 days is ridiculous.

I think it is very good because WWE will be able to say to the Kane marks like myself "look, he has held the belt for more than one day and has actually looked dominant against his brother so shut the hell up about us burying the guy". 2. Pretty sad as it seems that the world title has become a prop for short term booking.

Punk should have held the damned thing for the rest of 2009 after cashing in Money in the Bank, but it was not to be. Pushing an over-the-hill zombie was more important.

They're probably doing exactly what I've been wanting them to do - building him up like mad so that he can put over younger stars even better in his final years.

The saddest thing is the week after he loses the title he will probably be as beatable and pathetic as he has been for the past 5 years

When that over-the-hill zombie still puts more asses in the seats, sells more merchandise, and puts more viewers in front of the TV.....Then yes. Yes, it was more important. It's called smart business. You book in a way that's going to make you the most money, not in a way that's going to please a handful of internet smarks that (generally) spend very little. Like it or not, Undertaker still makes FAR, FAR more money for the company than Punk. And as long as that continues to hold true, expect him to continue to be booked in the main event scene.

HUGE BREAKING UPDATE:
If Kane can retain his title on Sunday, he will soon become the longest reigning World Champion since Batista back in 2005.

Undertaker could have drawn just as well without the belt. No one bought Survivor Series for him against Jerishow or Bragging Rights for a throwaway fatal four way that was only the showcase for Batista's heel turn, and the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber would have sold without him as champ.

Kane better keep the strap until at least Mania... He's been amazing with it. Truly one of the best runs they've had in nearly a decade, I think.
I love lengthy title reigns. Doing so brings prestige to the person, the belt and the challenger that eventually takes it.

the point he is making was that Punk was super over as a heel then having retired Jeff Hardy and had his legs cut from under him Bah, humbug. Taking a couple of losses to one of the most established wrestlers in the business in a world title feud does not constitute being buried, or anything of the sort. Punk's absolutely fine. He was never going to be the all-conquering super-heel stringing together 18 month title reigns like cheap sausages. He's exactly what the WWE wants and needs; someone who can talk and wrestle, and who they can instantly slot into a Wrestlemania main event feud or put a knock-kneed jobber over in a throwaway midcard match, and maintain perfect credibility in either scenario. He's a latter-day Chris Jericho, only with less of a bald spot.

The only thing I got out of that was disbelief at how long Swaggers boring reign managed to last.

I don't really think Edge needs the title right now, and I figure they'd likely want him chasing it more than just one PPV.

Taker's not going to be in the business nearly a long as Punk will. What will they do when Taker retires and Punk isn't over enough because he was never put over? Not that Punk is being buried or anything, just saying that it's not a smart business choice considering Taker is already more over than anyone else is and didn't need the rub AT ALL to put asses in seats. And when he leaves, they need a new ass-seat-putter.

With all due respect, Punk could get dozens of clean wins over Undertaker/Cena/Mysterio/everybody else with credibility, and I still don't think he'd be putting very many asses in seats. He just doesn't have that It Factor to become a top draw.
Admittedly, neither does Triple H, but I don't think Aurora Rose is old enough for that career path to be open to Punk yet.

Yet being the operative word. But in 20 years or so... ...yes, I just used this thread to plug a friend's DAZ studio work with his interpritation of HHH's first daughter...which he made a character before Steph actually became pregnant.
