This was the first TNA show I've watched in a while. I've kept up a pretty good idea of what's going on in the company. I went in with some friends and ordered the show because I was interested in seeing how "They" played out, and because I figured there would be some good matches.
And there were some good matches. Nothing that shook my world, but that's not necessary. I'm not the biggest fan of the super high-flying style, but it's always a great way to open the show. I'm a big fan of Douglas Williams and Jay Lethal, so that was cool. Despite not being a big fan of any of the knockouts involved (and kind of being tired of this whole Beautiful People-Madison deal) I didn't think the women's match was bad, though the pin looked horrible. I didn't care about EY & OJ vs Ink Inc. at all. I was also completely confused about the finish, with Young beating up his partner, but I didn't care enough to try to understand it.
The cage was fine, though I wonder why Kendrick would be hiding on top of the cage. What if no one came up there? I also didn't really understand EV2 winning. Just doesn't feel like the right move to me. If that's the blowoff match, as it should be given the stipulation, I don't see the upside to having them win.
Monster's Ball was what it was, some "oh shit" trainwreck moments.
The main event seemed to be going fine, though I'm now having a hard time recalling much besides the double ankle lock and Kurt's moonsault. Then the ref gets killed by a clothesline so Bischoff could come down with a chair (as someone already said, what if the match ended before a ref bump? And don't answer with "it's a work," that doesn't mean it shouldn't be logical. Then the ref continues to be dead from one move while Hogan's music plays and he slowly makes his way to the ring and stares at Eric. Jeff whacks Kurt and Anderson with Hulk's crutch, Jarrett and Abyss make their way to the ring to smile and pose. Abyss, who got hit in the stomach with a board with nails in it earlier in the show, is fresh as a box of fluffy ducks. Then RVD gets in the ring with the guy he had the Monster's Ball with earlier in the show, plus his friends. Apparently, just so he could get his ass kicked.
I don't mind being able to see something coming if it is something that is done well. If it makes sense. Thinking about it, you could see the explosion of the Mega Powers coming. But it was done well, it made sense, and it wasn't hard to figure out where they could go with it.
I admit, I've not been watching the shows, so while I have been making an effort to keep up with what happens on Impact, I'm bound to miss some things. But my first thought is, "Is someone really coming when they've been in the company for almost a year or more?" Setting aside my issue with the terminology used, I can "get" Hogan and Bischoff wanting to take control of the company. I can "get" Jarrett wanting to re-take the company. I'm not sure why he should trust Hogan and Bischoff, but again, I'll set that aside for the time being. I can certainly "get" them wanting a main event player on board, but I'm not sure what Jeff's motivation would be. Abyss...I guess he's there because he's crazy and easy to manipulate.
So we have 3 figureheads, one of which wrestles and one of which can barely move, an easily manipulated psycho to do the dirty work, and the champ.
As much as I wanted to like the whole "They" business going in, I just don't see a way they can book this that will entertain me or at least make me give a damn. I was hoping for something that would convince me to start tuning in to Impact again, and that didn't happen. I'll continue to pay attention to what's going on, but I'm really not very optimistic after this.
