Let me explain. Back when I was in college (02-06), I was fairly big into metalcore (please don't judge ), and a bunch of bands I dug like Scarlet, Every Time I Die, Boys Night Out, and Remembering Never were all on the same record label, Ferret Records. So I wound up a fan of the label itself. I don't hate In Flames by any stretch of the imagination, but if Come Clarity hadn't been released on Ferret, I probably wouldn't have picked it up (but I did, and I enjoyed it). Granted, once a lot of those bands I really liked broke up or moved on to different record labels, I wound up moving on (not to a different label, I just sorta re-emphasized for myself liking musicians on their own merits). I still enjoy the hell out of Every Time I Die, though. ;D Another example, though this isn't so much brand loyalty as it is medium loyalty: I'm a huge comic book fan, as I've made mention of once or twice around here. But even stuff that's based on comic books I want to do well, be it TV shows or movies or whatever. That seems normal enough, but I mean if two movies are coming out on the same weekend, and one of them is based on a comic book, even if its one I haven't read or heard of before, I automatically want it to do better business than the movie not based on a comic. And you could read me the plot synopsis to the same movie twice, and even if I think it sounded kinda dumb the first time, if you tack on "Based on the graphic novel by..." the second time, I'm way more likely to give the film a shot then. Granted, I still LOVE a great deal of movies not based on comic books, but for whatever reason, I'm very willing to raise a flag in honor of the ones that ARE based on comics. Which reminds me, I gotta pick up Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World one of these days... You guys got any examples of bizarre fandoms like that that you're a part of, or am I the only crazy one?

I saw Ghost Rider.
Now I'm no longer loyal by name alone to Marvel.

Boys Night Out was an awesome, awesome band, but not even at their hardest would I call them metalcore.

Boys Night Out was an awesome, awesome band, but not even at their hardest would I call them metalcore. Yeah, sorry, I knew that. But I was a big fan of them at the same time I was a fan of the other bands I listed, and I thought I'd leave the specifics of genre distinction out of my little story above for the sake of not bogging down the story with something so specific. Does that make sense?

I'm gonna have to say the weirdest instance are juggalos and Psychopath Records. The hardcore ones will basically refuse to listen to anything but that label, or wear anything but their merch.

Yeah, I was thinking if I went "I was a big fan of metalcore, and post-hardcore, and etc. etc. etc." then we'd be on a whole side-subject about what the differences are, and someone else would say "why do we need all these subgenres?!" and whatever else. Granted, my original topic isn't exactly setting the boards on fire, so what do I know?

I have the same sort of loyalty to Equal Vision Records. I found them because Coheed & Cambria was originally on them before they signed to Columbia, and found tons of bands I like. Pretty damn good label, I'd say.

How about a weird instance of brand disloyalty. Like I hate Coca Cola, yet during Christmas time I drink a lot of it. Then after Christmas I go back to hating it again. Weeeeeird.

Nintendo. N64, we'll all been there. Arrive on the playground, first day back from Xmas holiday, geared to douse the masses with tales of Goldeneye multiplayer or Mario 64's unparalleled levels of gameplay, and you are greeted with this:
Kids - "What the f*** is a Nintendo 64? Nintendo? Really? The Playstation is where it's at. Are you a child?"
Common Sense - "Yes, we all are, we're eight."

I'm pretty loyal to Solid State and Tooth and Nail Records. There are some bands that I'm not big on that are on those labels but I'm more inclined to check a band out if they are on one of them. Even though I like a lot of Ferret Music bands as well.

Even though I know they make a great guitar, I've hated Gibson ever since they sued PRS over the design of the Singlecut model. Mostly because it made the Tremonti model unavailable at a time when I wanted one most (granted I don't have nearly the money for a real Tremonti singlecut and wound up with the SE version anyway, but still... it's the principle).

I used to hate the Braves because WCW kept signing the WWF wrestlers and I grew up watching WWF and knew Ted Turner owned both

Myself and Palm phones.
I've owned a Treo 700p, Treo 755p, Centro, and the Pre when it first launched. I convinced myself that no matter how cool all touchscreen phones like the iPhone were, I could do everything and more with my Palm phones. It took me going through three Pres in less than a year to finally take another phone brand seriously (I have an Evo now, happy with it) and even then I felt like I had betrayed Palm, despite their phones giving me nothing but hell over the years.

TNA Fanboys. The ones who take every little pieces of criticism as a personal attack and think TNA can't do no wrong despite anything anyone says about it and has the attitude that your either with TNA or against TNA. This alone make me dislike TNA and this is coming from someone who is a fan of ICP.
