Saved By the Bell, King of Queens, and Everybody Loves Raymond are the first ones I could think of. but then somehow ended up getting better and better? The only show I can think of is Boy Meets World. It started out as a pretty milk toast, bleh comedy but as the show progressed the style of humor got more goofy and self referential. I actually liked the first couple of seasons of Boy Meets World the best, and felt it went really downhill around season 3 and I never watched it anymore. Agreed. It started getting really lame after the first few seasons, IMO. Don't even get me started on the crap that was "the college years"

Really? Most fans of the series I see online seem to say the first season was superior to most of the later ones.

ANYWAY, for a choice for this thread, I'll pick Star Trek: The Next Generation. The first two seasons were merely OK...by the end of the third season they hit their stride. Oh, you're being way too kind. The first two seasons of TNG were far from "OK," they were downright awful. The first season is especially bad, as there isn't anything close to resembling a good episode.

The few episodes I've seen of Mystery Science Theater 3000's first season are forgettable. Barney Miller didn't really hit its stride until they dumped the Gregory Sierra and Linda Lavin characters.

Off the top of my head, there's the first Lore episode, the ep where Deanna is pregnant, the first "Data as Sherlock Holmes in the Holodeck" ep, the ep where Tasha dies...just to name a few good TNG eps IMO.

I thought House's first season was a little weak, but Season Two and Three had nary bad episodes. When the interns got put in during the writer's strike, my attention waned off.

Data as Holmes and pregnant Troi are both from season 2, which actually did have a few good episodes sprinkled amongst the crap (although for the record, pregnant Troi isn't one of them). I will, however, stand by my assertion that season 1 had no good episodes. Of the two that you listed, "Datalore" comes the closest to being decent, but even it is undermined by some monumentally stupid writing (i.e. only Wesley realizing right away that Lore has switched places with Data, when it should be obvious to anyone with half a brain). "Skin of Evil" (the one where Tasha dies) is just unwatchable.

Highlander the Series, until the second half of it's first season.

All In The Family's first season was weird, Edith's attitude was real dry and not anything like it would be in later seasons. Not to say they are bad episodes by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly not as great as the show would get IMO.

Oh, and another good Season 2 one: the first meeting with The Borg (even though the "not caring about you, only your tech" thing seems out of place with the Borg later...)
