Chikara recently had a show where they had to turn people away at the door, on their first show ever in New York. I'd say that's pretty big. Going into a new market, and, based purely on your reputation, sell the place out. On the other side of the country PWG held their 7th anniversary show in July and also turned away people at the door. In fact, they probably crammed in 100 more people than they should have in the Legion Hall. But that's their usual fans, the usual city, on an Anniversary show. Chikara's New York show was basically an "inbetween" show.

Chikara's New York show was basically an "inbetween" show. That's a half truth, actually. Danielson was on that card so a lot of people who went only wanted to see DBD. Not to mention that it was Scott Lost's retirement match with Scorpio Sky so a lot of people who were fans of the early 00s So Cal scene showed up. And I know for a fact that a lot of people from out of state and country showed up. However, the other two things you mentioned are absolutely true, especially the venue situation. It seems that the Reseda, CA Legion Hall rent is wicked cheap and the organization doesn't want to move anywhere else. Hell, they haven't done a show outside of Reseda in close to two years and they haven't been oversees since 07.

My personal favorite would have to be DGUSA. It feels like that magical, special feeling ROH used to have when Gabe was booking it has simply moved to that promotion. Great matches on every show, and a good mix of Dragon Gate guys from Japan and top indy guys from the US and Canada. They're actually starting to get a storyline going too, with the various Dragon Gate factions recruiting American members.
PWG I do kind of like, but as someone already said it just seems to be big move after big move, and the show doesn't really feel like an "event" so much as a series of matches that are all very equal in quality, duration, and importance. Granted, that quality level is high, but it doesn't feel like anything special. It's more like just a bunch of random matches with top indy guys, and the occasional TNA guy. In addition, the goofy commentary is funny to an extent, but it sort of undermines the matches to a degree.
FIP is decent, and while I don't like it enough to actually purchase their dvds, I usually enjoy the bonus matches on DGUSE dvds. It sort of feels like a minor league to the rest of the top indies, if that makes sense.
EVOLVE, much as I usually like Gabe's work, is awful to me. I like the idea of wrestling being more of a sport, but to me that means ROH or early 80's NWA. EVOLVE has talented guys, but none of the fun that makes wrestling what it is.
CZW I have always hated. I don't like garbage wrestling, a lot of their roster sucks, and while they do have some talented guys putting on good technical matches from time to time, there is one thing that keeps me from enjoying it more than anything else: the production and look. The camerawork is too shaky and grainy, the commentary is bad, the lighting is awful (the ECW Arena has never looked so bad), and all that yellow and black literally hurts my eyes to the point that I can't watch 5 minutes of it without getting a headache.
Chikara is something that I SHOULD like, but for some reason don't. I was never a fan, but thanks to the exposure of Quackenbush, Jigsaw, Hallowicked, Frightmare, Gran Akuma, and The Osirian Portal on other wrestling shows I decided to buy all the Best Of dvds to see what I was missing. For the life of me, I just can't watch them. They don't hold my interest, despite the fact that I *want* to watch them and *want* to like them.

While we would love for AIW to be considered we are very realistic where we stand in the industry, based on numerous factors Chikara is the biggest indy by a lot. Some of there larger events are drawing 700 plus crowds, they have expanded into running multiple states in 2010,they are always the top selling DVDS on Smart Mark Video, and they have developed a huge international presence over the last few years.

To be honest, I've heard a lot more about AIW since moving to the Chicago area. Even met one of the guys that works there. He was working the door at the Chicago DGUSA show. Don't think I got his name, though.

Who draws the most at the gate? As far as drawing goes I'd say: 1) Cage of Death 2) King of Trios (Unless you count the whole weekend as one, then feel free to say it's about 1800) 3) Tournament of Death 4) Regular CZW Arena shows 5) Regular Chikara Arena shows 6) Out of town Chikara shows And it's a toss up between who sells more from Smart Mark. I'd imagine it goes: 1) King of Trios 2) Tournament of Death/Cage of Death 3) A mix between regular CZW/Chikara shows. And there's a lot more "Podcast a Go-Go fans" who have never seen a Chikara show that makes the fan base look huge.
