Since we've had about 6,000 Simpson quotes threads, I'm wondering what jokes, quotes, etc. do you think just sucked on the show. One I can think of is in the most recent Treehouse of Horror. During the Twilight parody, the vampire boy goes, "You're tearing me apart dad!" like a parody of "The Room." It was just like the Simpsons writers thought, "Well hey everyone else is parodying it? Let's just throw it in there." That is a parody of Rebel without a Cause not the Room. Cause vampire guy from Twilight looks kinda like James Dean I haven't seen that movie in about ten years, so I'll take your word for it. Still didn't find it funny though.

The whole Muppets short from the christmas special. Most notably the joke where Katy Perry kisses Mr. Burns, to which he replies "I Kissed a girl and I liked it". That joke contradicts the Larry Burns episode, too. So I don't like it. How so? It was a dream sequence by the baby

Saying "Macbeth" in front of theatre actors (Ian Mackellen)
It was a blatant steal from Blackadder plus it was no way near as funny

The Loch Ness monster episode ending. Virtually every joke in Marge's Fear of Flying. That episode was horrendous. "Danger! Danger! My hooks are flailing wildly!" I liked that episode This is what a cornfield looks like. Hmm (a plane flies in and shoots at Marge and her mum)

"And I keep telling you, you flyboys crack me up!" The Ricky Gervais episode. Except maybe for the "I don't mean die like Lady Di" bit in the song the whole thing was painfully unfunny. Much like I find Gervais himself.

The time when Bart and Lisa were chasing Homer and Marge all across the world in many different airports set in Saul Bass "Catch Me If You Can" graphics for like three minutes straight. That was when the Simpsons had jumped the jumping the shark.

Homer: Wait a minute... somethings not right here... This lesbian bar doesn't have a fire exit! Enjoy your deathtrap ladies! Lesbian: What was her problem? My choice is most of the episode "When Flanders Failed". Just seemed to be a really unfunny one that. But i haven't seen a lot of the episodes from recent years so i imagine theres a lot worse amoungst those.

There was an episode (I wanna say the one where Homer hunts for a turkey, but I could be wrong) where Moe is attacked by a bird, then he screams "Not the face, not the face", then the bird proceeds to peck his crotch, afterward screaming "the face, the face". This was unfunny enough, but then he explains the joke of it being better getting pecked in the face than the crotch. A very cringeworthy "joke" that makes Seth McFarlane's writing look like William Shakespeare.

Can the past 12 or so years count, give or take a few watchable episodes?
In particular, whatever episode it was where there was a screaming caterpillar or something. That whole joke. Or the running gag with Homer waving a little supportive flag. It was funny the first or second time, at least.

Any and all Homer holding a pennant bits. Holding a pennant with a word describing what's happening? Komedy!
Almost any time the show references technology or the internet. For a bunch of guys who seem decently "with it" in interviews and commentaries, it feels like all their jokes and references in this field are just too out of touch.

I haven't watched an episode of this show in like ten years, but for some reason maybe a year ago I watched a new episode (must have been realllllly bored) and the entire thing was just sad. Nothing was funny. They threw in just about every "hip" reference they could about iPods and other stupid crap. Just made me remember why I didn't even like the show when it was good. I remember back in the day when they would crib from stff like Citizen Kane back in the day. That stuff was actually funny and well done. Nowadays it's shoehorning as much current s*** as possible. Like the Katy Perry appearance for example. The only f***ing reason that was made was because of the Sesame Street incident. Plus that whole Martha Stewart segmant was terrible. No real Simpsons fans give a horse's ass about s*** like Sesame Street or Martha Stewart. YEAH!

That joke contradicts the Larry Burns episode, too. So I don't like it. How so? It was a dream sequence by the baby And not to mention it's not really canon since it was a segmented Treehouse like episode.

Any and all Homer holding a pennant bits. Holding a pennant with a word describing what's happening? Komedy! That's a running joke by John Swartzwelder. Speaking of Swartzwelder, i'll add the episode where the Simpsons went to England. Only 1 joke made me laugh (when Homer is about to escape prison through a secret passage and says "Lucily I got out before I went insane, goodnight magical pixies!" jump cut to some pixies floating in the prison waving goodbye to Homer) the rest was meh. And it's a shame that was Swartzwelders last episode, because I think Swartzwelder is hilarious.

And I enjoy most Swartwelder episodes as a whole and would say, overall, he's my favourite Simpsons writer period, or at least tied for first, but that running gag didn't work for me at all.

The Gervais episode in general, I like his comedy, but you can tell that he was severely limited in what he could've done, trying to combine his British wit with American comedy never usually works (apart from The Office, amazingly).
But I digress, the episode was awful, the lowest of low points being when the Fox executives make Marge say "I'll do it" over and over again.

Homer fantasises about murdering his father after they have a car accident.
Falling flat may not have been the word for it. It sickened me to my stomach and I haven't watched a new episode since.
