So at my work we have a cat (they've always had a cat) named Rufus.
I was the last to leave when I heard meowing. Lo and behold, Rufus had somehow made it to the roof, on top of our wharehouse (I work for an independent publisher/bookstore) where he was too scared to come down.
I literally grabbed a ladder, climbed to the roof of my work...and escorted Rufus to safety (ie, indoors).
I see this as a fitting end to my day job for 2010. And hopefully good karma for 2011.

"EXCELLENT!!!" *ovation* Though, I did have to laugh at the irony of you saving a cat named Rufus from the top of a roof.

I find this a little funny because a couple days before Christmas my fiancee & her roommate adopted a kitten they found shivering in place in the Wal*Mart parking lot. They called it 'Ruffles' because it ate the chips they had in the car (the only thing remotely resembling food) while one of them went in to buy some cat food.

Saving cats is a great feeling of accomplishment.
At the house I lived at in the country, our female cat was pregnant but eventually disappeared. My sister insisted one day the babies had to be born and she believed she was up above the roof so we ended up climbing up to check it out. Turned out she had them in this spot where the ceiling dropped at an angle above the basement steps. The whole attic ceiling was just two two by sixes nailed together with drywall and insulation and in the hole there was just one set of those boards down the middle. So I had to lower myself down between the two by four gaps above it, slide down, hand the cats up and then pull myself back up without slipping in some pretty sweltering heat. Luckily, I've always been in good shape.
Years before that, the alley cat in my neighborhood got stuck on my gram's roof. My dad climbed the tree near her house. The tree had no branches lower than about twelve feet. Then across a branch and onto the roof. Which was pretty insane to see as a kid and made me think my dad was superman.
