NBC screwed Conan in 2004 when they gave him the job in the future and then didn't support him or force Leno to allow him to guest host prior to taking over in 2009. Leno just did what he had the right to do, enforce clauses in his contract and tell NBC that so long as he was a hot commodity if they let him go he was going to go to another network to work. I'm with Coco cause I think he is far funnier but business wise in no way did Leno screw him.

Just to clear up the whole UK=/= England situation.
England, Scotland and Wales make up Great Britain.
Great Britain and Northern Ireland make up the UK.
Southern Ireland (Eire) has no ties to the UK, despite the fact the region that Britain and Ireland occupy is called the British Isles. I have to explain this to fellow Brits.
Places like the Falklands, Gibraltar, Channel Islands, Isle of Man etc. belong to the UK but are not part of the UK.
Isn't this educational?

This one makes me really frustrated when I tell people this, but Antarctica and Australia are both a continent and a country. This is the biggest failure for an OP Ive seen on this board. Until we get a "Matt hardy's YouTube account appreciation thread"

Cracked.com is not a reliable source for making any argument.

That people did not think that the world was flat during Columbus's time.

Cracked.com is not a reliable source for making any argument. It's like people who use a quote by a famous person as their entire argument. It's a whole lot of witty verbiage, but does it actually mean anything or possess any evidence? Cracked is great for fiction but that's about it. That people did not think that the world was flat during Columbus's time. This also spawns the popular assumption that Colombus was turned down by so many people because national leaders thought he would fall off the Earth. Instead, they didn't trust him because his terms for any lands and spoils obtained as a result of the voyage were nothing short of highway robbery.

Well in terms of the Conan/Jay thing from a business perpetrate I think Cracked was right on. Conan himself has admitted had he been in charge of NBC and had to either pay 45 mil or 140 mil he would have made the same choice they did.

Cracked gets a lot wrong. It is pretty funny, though.
All the misconceptions about the Jews, ranging from invincible ignorance to darkest malice and you choose that one? Given the unique circumstances surrounding the founding of modern Israel, getting confused how the Jewish Homeland was settled in the 1920s is hardly the worst misconception.
Re: UK: In all fairness, I think this is mostly an insider thing. The UK was, in its origins, an English Empire, both politically and culturally, and most outsiders would see an English State. You have to remember, what we think of as European Nation States, were in their origins, Feudal Empires that encompassed a mix of Roman and Germanic populations with their own degree of sovereignty. All of them could claim that their distinctive cultural history is ignored for that of the nation state.
Re: Evolution: In all fairness, how is “Evolved from a common primate ancestor” really different from “evolved from monkeys?” First of all, if one's objection is creationist in nature, it’s doubtful the distinction would console one. Second, understanding natural selection does not have to cover the current understanding of the field; it just has to impart, “Simple Organisms developed into more complex organisms.” It is a simplified explanation, not a wrong one.

It's a whole lot of witty verbiage, but does it actually mean anything or possess any evidence? Cracked is great for fiction but that's about it. Not really fiction. There's usually nuggets of truth in it, it's just in their attempts to expand it and make jokes out of it that it obfuscates and loses the points. The basic statement of fact is usually accurate, and you could find the information to back it up, but in the presentation they have a tendency to get things wrong.
