I cannot express how sick and tired I am of CM Punk fans being talked about as if they're a bunch of biased, jaded sheep. Maybe people just like the guy. Did that thought ever occur? It's not a catch-all thing. Obviously you can like Punk and be whatever. This place would not work if people were forbidden from generalising. You'd have to write a string of elaborate footnotes below every post detailing which posters in particular you were aiming at. However, more than any other wrestler I can think of, his fans really really love every little thing he does, and treat his fueds personally. It is unquestionable that whatever gripes people have with a wrestler are amplified when he's beating CM Punk.

You are living in a fantasy world if you think Hardy, Rey and Umaga were well-recieved here. Hardy and Rey haven't been well liked for a few years now. JBL was loved as a commentator, not a wrestler. Batista!?!? Well- liked? Are you winding me up or something? Orton.... I'll be honest. I forgot they had a fued at all. And as far as Taker goes - I think a lot of the anti-Taker sentiment has more to do with him wearing out his welcome more so than his fued with Punk. As powerful as Punk is - he cannot make fans hate people who they didn't like already.

Oh, and the WWE Champion is taking backseat to another John Cena storyline. It's his spotlight stealing that annoys me the most. Yeah, becuase John Cena makes the decision to do so. Idiotic statement.

If it were only as simple as it being him feuding with CM Punk. Simple fact is Cena's contribution to the dialogue was cringeworthy, and anyone else who would deliver such a monstrosity wouldn't be a main eventer. CM Suck? That's it?
Sad.

I love both Cena and Punk, but I'm actually dreading this feud due to the shitstorm that's already brewing here. WHO CARES WHO LIKES WHO? Holy shit.

Idiotic statement. What's wrong with the statement? Cena's character hogs the spotlight, so he hates Cena's character. It's like saying if you complain about Wesley Crusher you should get over your hatred of Wil Wheaton.

I definatly see Punk getting about 7 appreciation threads per Raw (Punk drinks a soda! Punk eats a ham and cheese! Punk opens a door!)
While Cena could have a 17 star match, cure cancer, donate $1,000,000 to charity and personally take everyone out for Pizza and he will STILL be hated on

He could do exactly the same things, and he would still be crapped on because one person said it was good, ergo he's unfairly praised (any praise of Punk is unfair and excessive, you know. He's so unequivocally terrible that it's absolutely inconceivable that anyone could actually like him). Now that we know that, instead of whining about how some people hate our favorites, how about we all just enjoy the performances we like, critique the ones we don't, and live and let live?

CM Punk is Frank Grimes to Cena's Homer Simpson.
Punk is making completely clear and logical arguements to Cena's actions, his flaws, his hypocritical nature, and Cena just says a poop joke to get the crowd back on his side. It's great.

I love CM Punk and John Cena, but the "CM Sucks" insult made me cringe. Also Punk was right in everything he said about John.

Of course he can be cheesy. But I mean come on. Let's not pretend there aren't people that jump all over Cena because of who he is and the push he has been given. There are such people as haters. That's their job, to hate on something no matter what. Let's not act like these people don't exist. So let me get this straight. First, you started off by saying that everyone on this board was being unreasonably negative about Cena, and you purported to prove it by noting that the general consensus was that Punk came off better than Cena on the mic last night. Integral to this conclusion, it would seem, is the assumption that Punk could never actually be better than Cena at something, so anyone who said so must be biased, and you were going to show us the error of our ways. However, now you're saying that we're not ALL biased and over-the-top after all, but you would like me to agree with you that some people out there just don't like Cena no matter what he does. I'm sure there are people like that out there. I'm just not seeing how they're relevant to what you posted here. Some people may not like Cena no matter what, sure. But who's saying those people were the ones posting last night? Who's saying they also like Punk? And if they're a minority whose very existence is now the topic of our question, rather than whether they comprise the bulk of people who preferred Punk's work to Cena's last night, is it really a big deal? Who cares if there are a handful of haters out there? I don't know, I'm not bothered by people preferring Punk's work to Cena's last night, and I don't think it's indicative of all of us being "haters". If it were, then would your initial premise make any sense (that people were generally positive on Cena's work for a while, but then thought he got pretty cheesy last night)? If we all hated Cena no matter what he did, no one would've been positive on him when he was doing decent work, either. No, I think it makes a lot more sense that Cena got outclassed last night by someone who did a much better job on the mic than he did. And that's okay. Not every wrestler is perfectly equal to every other one on every single night. Pro' Wrasslin': serious shit.

I don't care that he's feuding with Punk. He could be feuding with David Otunga, I'd still dislike him. I find him incredibly annoying on the mic, boring and awkward in the ring, and I hate how he's booked to never look weak. The fact that Nexus finally started making him look human made me like him way more. Then look what happened.
And it's just my opinion. It just happens to be shared by a lot of people. That doesn't mean that we're some kind of hivemind. "We" don't hate Cena. "I" hate Cena. And other people do too. And it's not all of a sudden favoritism, I disliked Cena before Punk was even relevant.

I hate how John Cena is booked.
Booking example: Last night in the opening Cena was very goofy. Final segment he was super serious. They showed nothing in the middle that would make him that mad. Yeah Punk was making plans, but to go from one extreme to another was bad in my opinion.
It makes him come off like someone said a meatheat or roid raging. Happy, then.... f***ING SERIOUS CM SUCKS about an 1 1/2+ hour later.

I don't think its a matter of "hating" one or the other. The point is, this feud between the two of them has potential to be terrific. They could have great, great matches together, and their exchanges on the mic, given both of their capabilities in that department, should be memorable.
It just got off to a bit of a weak start last night. And its not that Cena "can't hang" with Punk on the mic or whatever, his material was just weak.
I'm still psyched for it, overall. People might be overreacting a little, myself included, but that's the internet, you know?

Most of the threads I see about C.M. Punk around these parts seem to be either:
1) Threads about how there are too many threads dedicated to him
and
2) Threads about something else that turn into threads about how there are too many threads dedicated to him.
I think the degree to which the majority of the posters here actually care about C.M. Punk is often overstated. I think you'll find a lot of people like me who think he's good, but not necessarily the be-all, end-all of talented wrestlers. Give me a break.
