At least in the current WWE.
They really killed off the old guard so to speak.

It's took me a while to see it, but Orton seems to be becoming the new Undertaker, so to speak. Never THE guy, but always utilized as a go to guy in a pinch. Basically, he's becoming 'the cornerstone of the WWE' like Undertaker was from the mid '90s on.
I'd still like to note that Orton isn't NEARLY as good at that role as Taker was, though.

Pretty much. They've just about done it all. I think with Undertaker working part time, Shawn Michaels retiring, and HHH taking extended leave, as well, Cena and Orton are definitely the go-to veterans in the current WWE.

Well, they both have 8 years experience in WWE, so I guess it's not so strange to call them veterans in today's WWE.

I do to, but that's only because they've been headlining pretty much nonstop since WM21

I do see it though; Cena has been with the company since 2002, thats 9 years of coming up the ranks and then being pushed as the face of the company. Orton has been there the same timeframe and has become the "worker" of the two.
Cena, for whatever has been said about his push, selling and so on, has charisma enough to do the TV shows and events. Randy isn't seen that way, but if today a credible opponent is needed for a hot superstar, Randy gets the nod more often than not.

And to think, they're both only in their early 30's (Orton is only 30, period). They still have many years left.

Also I remember reading interviews with Legacy where Orton was their mentor throughout the entire run.
Guy has only been main-eventing for 5 years and he's already giving back.

Hell, he got Eugene his job back... which he pissed away by showing up fat and out of shape. I will say though, I love the concept that in the WWE, even retards need to have a 6 pack and pecs.

Random fact: Orton was the last superstar to make his television debut under the WWF name

But Orton and Cena showed loyalty to WWE and not looking for thrills elsewhere. If Rock didn't become a mainstream crossover hit, he would probably still be there. And Brock's heart wasn't really in the pro wrestling business. If UFC was big when he around the time before he was offered a WWF contract, that would had been his first choice. But UFC was the size of TNA and paid a lot less money. Brock wanted to leave so bad he tried out for the Vikings even though he lasted played football in high school.

Honestly, with the life he's had I still expect Lesnar to before all's said and done be a figure skater, basketball player, gymnast, host on the Food Network, professional hunter, American gladiator, a valkyrie, and a sacrificial lamb in a Joss Whedon movie.

It still surprises me that Edge has been there for 12 and a half years. Doesn't seem like that long to me.

Actually it was Cena that got Nick his job back the WWE and not Orton despite what was reported on some site. I remember Dinsmore mentioning it in his shoot interview.

True, but Cena and Orton seem to be extremely loyal and passionate for the business. Wrestling was a Plan B for The Rock and Brock is a freak of nature who could do almost anything and wanted more money. Wrestling seems to be the only thing both Cena and Orton really know. And neither of them are as charismatic to break into the movie business like The Rock did, especially Orton. I don't think we have anything to worry about. Unless, of course, they have to retire due to a career-ending injury.
