I'm still holding out for the Kane/Goldust tag team. Think about it, it makes sense, no?

If you watch Kane stuff from 2003 and from 2010 you can see that the guy hasn't really made any process. He still sucks. Kane might not be the greatest wrestler, but he probably knows the difference between process and progress.

Release the guy who was just the world champ for months?
I don't see that happening.
Though I agree with the sentiment of the OP. Undertaker and Kane's supernatural chicanery are out of place in WWE right now.

They need to freshen up Kane's career by having Undertaker hit him on the head and give him amnesia. When Kane wakes up he will be completely nuts, and combine all of his previous gimmicks into one super gimmick. He will be a satanic dentist who thinks he is Kevin Nash dresses like a Christmas tree, and rants about the government while sending other wrestlers bombs through the mail..

I appreciate how unselfish the guy is, but he's incredibly stale to me. I felt like the only person here that wasn't giddy when he finally won his second World title after 12 years of terrible booking. There is such a thing as it being too late to revive someone's career and Kane is the perfect example. I wouldn't even bat an eyelid if he was released tomorrow.

They should give Kane a regular segment where he reads books to children while in character.

Wait, have Kane end his WWE career? So does that mean Ric Flair will beat him in a career match, hand Kane a mask and body suit after Kane burns his pants?

WWE is going to allow Kane to retire his way, not force him out.

For the same reason as the OP, I wanted them to release Randy Orton when they released Ricky Ortiz.

It would be firing that I would remember for a long time. I remember when they finally released the Rock.

Release him?
Nah, probably not.
He is very boring however. Much like Abyss in TNA, they have watered down the character and tried to bring it back to dominance but it's just too late. There is nothing left for him to do.
Once the mask came off, it was really over.
