Most people like to pit Khan with Scar. But in a straight up one on one fight, most people believe that Khan would spank Scar easily. So here is a more even fight.
Mufasa, King of pride rock. In the film he was able to easily fight off three hungry hyenas.
Vs.
Shere Khan, king of the Indian jungle and most feared tiger in all the land. Was able to severely injure the bear Baloo.
Who would win?

Shere Khan was not only a jungle king, but a business king as well. Tail Spin told us as much

Movie style or realistically?
Realistically, the fight never happens because the tiger backs off from the significantly larger cat who has backup in the form of a pride. Predators know when to walk away.

Unless Mufasa finds a way to work a lighter, Shere Khan takes it. Not only is he bigger than Mufasa, he's pure evil.

Mufasa, he's not going to be intimidated by Khan. Khan rules through fear Mufasa went right into a charging Wildebeast Herd to save his son he's not going to be afraid of him. Mufasa's just as big and strong as Khan. Khan in truth is really a coward cause he picks on those weaker than him and knows it and he knows it. Bagheera in the books was shown to be more dangerous than him and so was Baloo as well and the moment Mufasa shows he's not intimidated he'll back off and run with his tail in between his legs.

Mufasa is voiced by James Earl Jones. Khan is stunned by the best voice ever and mauled.
Seriously, though, a tiger would destroy a lion.

Shere Khan. An entire pack of wolves were so terrified of him that they sent Mowgli away because they knew they wouldn't be able to protect him from Khan. In the books though, Shere Khan has a crippled leg so Mufasa would beat book Shere Khan

Shere Khan for as cool as he was, kinda turned out to be a bitch by the end of the movie. Mufasa takes it.

Yeah, Mufasa. Kahn only hunted men because he was lame and too weak to hunt anything else. And Baloo was a Sloth Bear. Sloth bears are the weakest of bears. As we all know, Bear ferocity is measured on the Elisha Scale, where the Short Faced Bear ranks 50, and the Red Panda ranks 1, the Sloth Bear would be able to kill 7 youths. So, again, not the lord of the bears.

It would be a tough back and forth battle, but in the end, it would be Mufasa by Ref Stoppage in the 3rd Round.

I'd go with Shere Khan because I think he's the smarter of the two. They'd be equal in strength but Khan's superior smarts would get him past Mufasa.
Of couse, the Khan would then be easy pickings for Scar.

An average tiger would beat an average lion in a fight 100 times out of 100, but Mufasa is not average lion.

An average tiger would beat an average lion in a fight 100 times out of 100, but Mufasa is not average lion. A male lion is stronger than a Bengal tiger. Now if Mufasa were fighting Chagatai Khan, the Siberian from the steppes, sure. The tiger would win.* *Such a fictional tiger may or may not exist.

Impressive, yeah, but there's a reason that hyenas will bow out against an alpha lion without a fight. A male is a third larger than the female, and a good 80 pounds heavier at max than a Bengal. A male lion is built for deathmatches and marathon love making. He is piss poor in a hunt due to his mane, but he's the master of intimidation.
