So, some movie series stay pretty solid through most, ie, the OT for Stars Wars, Back to the Future, etc. Some though start off strong and take a nose dive that they never recover from. My nominee is Highlander. The first is a cult hit, yes, but a lot of fun. Then Highlander 2 hits... and honestly.. retarded is the only word for it. Suddenly the immortals are actually aliens from the planet Zeist that were banished to be reborn on earth, Ramirez is randomly brought back to life, well, just because... and the movie is a train wreck all the way through. It was so bad that when Highlander 3 came out, it totally ignored the 2nd, and Zeist is never mentioned again in the movies.

obviously this would leave out direct to DVD sequels, right?
I'd vote for "Hostel: Part 2" or "Boondock Saints 2: All Souls Day" as the worst sequel to get theatrical release after a good original

Devil May Cry 2. It's like they went out of their way to surgically remove everything that made the first game fun.
...Or is this a movies-only topic?

That's a hard one to top. 1 & 2 are classics without a doubt. 3 & 4 are terrible, but terrible in a way that I thought they were fun in the Plan 9 way. 5 - whatever sequel they're on now. I thought were just plain bad. They tried to fit Pinhead into scripts and I thought they just dropped the ball on the series.

Speed 2 was absolutely horrible. (yeah, the original was no masterpiece but it was a fun action flick)
Also: Son of The Mask, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, and The Jerk, Too.

I just watched Smokey and the Bandit II. It was horrible. A complete let down after the first movie.

I have never seen Speed 2 but that movie has been blasted everywhere I went, reviews or from people I know, that I never actually watched the movie from start to finish. As for Son of the Mask, I never did watch that movie. I don't even consider that a true sequel, just a retelling of the Mask story as well as involving Loki. I did like Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, though I still prefer the first movie. As for the topic itself, Beverly Hills Cop III. The first one is a classic, the second one was good but not as good as the first one. The third movie, while I didn't think it was horrible, it doesn't live up to the first two.

Jaws Series seemed to get significantly worse as the series went on.

Robocop 2 is still better than Robocop 3. Sure, Robocop 2 was not as good as the first movie, but I still find it funny when I see the parts of Robocop dealing with those kids. "Bad language makes for bad feelings!"

"Bad language makes for bad feelings!" Atleast 2 kept the adult atmosphere, while 3 was obviously made for the kiddie fans.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pet Sematary Two. The original film was among the best Stephen King film adaptions I've ever seen, but the sequel...not so much. Yikes.
