I am going to attend my first indy show on Jan,15 It will be a VPW event in L.I, NY. I know nothing about this company, and even less about indy events in general. Are indy shows much different than mainstream events? here is the card www.victoryprowrestling.com/new.html

Ricky Reyes is good saw him on Friday. Dont see any other names I know. It really depends on the company to tell how the shows gonna go.

Honestly, if you just go and have it in your mind that you're going to have a good time, you will. Don't just go to 'watch' wrestling, you can do that at home on the couch and you'll save a little cash. Go and get involved with the show. Take a few buddies (it usually isn't hard to convince people to go, since indies are typically $10-15), if you're a drinker, get a decent buzz on (also, usually cheap beer prices), and chant, cheer, boo and yell things and such. Strike up a few conversations with some other fans or some of the wrestlers if they walk around ringside at intermission. You'll get a better feel of who's who in the fed and, who knows, maybe you'll meet a few cool folks.
Just be mindful of the feds policies and types of fans in the crowd. If its a family-friendly atmosphere with a lot of little kids, keep it PG. If its an ECW wannabe, where every in-ring promo is fn this and fn that, go nuts.
Even if the in-ring wrestling isn't very good, this way you won't feel like the night is a waste. You'll have had a decent time hanging out and doing something new for a change. No reason to make the night a total bummer because a couple guys couldn't even throw a decent clotheline, you'll just know no to go back next time they run. Remember, supporting trash wrestling only leads to more trash wrestling.
Oh, yeah. If you see a girl that looks decent in a pretty trashy, double bag it kinda way, tell her you're a wrestler for some other fed. She's probably a rat.

VPW is awful. I wouldn't recommend going there for your first indy show, you may get the wrong idea. To be honest, you'd be better off going to NYWC on January 29th. They also run in Deer Park and are much better than VPW. www.nywcwrestling.com

According to him the shows are better than WWE ( i dont know for sure the guy is just a casual fan at best). Anyways i'll look into this other fed.

Not much into drinking any more ( i went to the WWECW event Hammerstein back in 06 buzzed , pretty cool experience). Im pretty sure this event is not pg, more of the hardcore fans

Definitely go to NYWC. All of the guys there are trained correctly (unlike VPW) and they always put on a great show. Some really good WWE talent has come out of there and you'll definitely be watching some future stars. I've been to 2 of their events and I was really impressed both times. Awesome to see other people from Long Island on here! Where are you guys from? I'm in Freeport~ Valley Stream here , originally from Forest Hills, Queens.

If you're looking to go to a good indy show, you might as well take the two hour drive to the Arena and watch a real indy show.

I remember my first indy show - was about '93/'94, and was held in the school playground of one of my friend's school. I don't remember the wrestling being any good, and there were a couple of WWF impersonators on there, but the kids seemed to have a fun time. Still the worst show I've ever been to, and I should really have known better at 12/13 years old.

I would go based on how hard I just laughed at the roster page for this thing.

Go, have fun.
Some people say there's a better indy promotional company out there, so what? You have free tix. Enjoy.

It sounds like fun, no matter how bad the event may be perceived. I go for the crowd experience. Have a good time.

What I do is go and be a "fan." I boo all the bad guys and cheer all the good guys and have a fun time. Is that bad?

Hey indy shows are awesome. I've heard mixed things about VPW but you should def go check it out and support the indys. Either way if you're close you should check out this place www.FWEWrestling.com they have a show coming up Jan. 22nd with Shad Gaspard, Eric Young and The Patriot I found it by downloading their iPhone app. I'll be there for sure!
