Believe it or not, i actually saw it today at wal-mart on display (in, of all things, the cd section) and decided to buy it. Getting past the whole wal-mart breaking street date thing, heres my initial thoughts. Ive only seen the documentary but it seems to be missing something. There are NO comments from heenan, not even archival footage from previous interviews with heenan, which was surprising. Instead, there were several comments from heenans wife and daughter. On the positive side, theres plenty of great heenan/monsoon stuff in the documentary, as well as some rare stuff from the 70s (including pics of heenan with facial hair!). Overall, not the best documentary the wwe has made, but it is worth it for heenan fans.

Considering how bad Heenan looks now it's probably a good thing that we didn't get any comments from him, and I mean that in a nice way.

Heenan doesn't talk on his own dvd? I know he isn't in good shape, but that is ridiculous. I was already thinking of taking a pass due to the lack of AWA/WWA stuff so this just made my decision even easier.

I mean, he's appeared on several dvds as well as an ep of confidential back when his vocal problems were less severe, they could have at least used that.

I've heard mixed opinions about the documentary, mostly coming from no Heenan and the length. Compared to other WWE documentaries of legends, like Flair and Steamboat, this set might be pretty disappointing if you consider the documentary the bulk of the purchase.
That being said, it's still a must-own and even the poorest WWE discs are typically very good.

Just bought the DVD, and plan to watch it later.
The lack of Heenan talking is upsetting, but considering his health of late, it's not a deal breaker.

I was sorta surprised they didn't use archive interview footage or anything. I would imagine they'd have some deleted scenes from interviews they could use, like they did with some reused deleted scene Bischoff interviews from the Monday Night Wars that I think they used on the Greatest Stars of the 90s or one of the newer ones. Anyway, as far as length is concerned, come on, he's a manager/commentator. You can't really expect a two-hour long documentary on ONE manager/commentator. The fact that they even gave him his own documentary/set is awesome enough! I was satisfied with the documentary, and the special features will be even better because they'll be full things and not snippets of different matches/interviews.
All that said, I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried when his daughter started talking about his health problems. I wish he was still well enough to be able to talk and make appearances ... its a shame.
The DVD, in my opinion, was well worth the money spent.

I wish he was still well enough to be able to talk and make appearances Actually, he has been. I would have met him in August if he hadn't injured his shoulder & hip in a freak fall. This year, he appeared at an indie event in his hometown of Chicago, TNA's Lockdown Fanfest in St. Louis, the Legends of the Ring convention in New Jersey, and JR mentioned in a blog that he was going to be at Wrestlemania, though he obviously didn't appear on camera. I followed up with the vendor who was bringing Bobby to the Fanfest in August, and he said that when he spoke to Bobby's wife after the surgery on his shoulder, she told him that Bobby was doing fine and recovering, and to keep him in mind for future bookings once he was healed up. While I understand the tendency to feel down about Bobby's current state, if I get the chance to meet him, you'd better bet I'm getting 3 or 4 photo ops. We're lucky to still have the man with us, I'm going to enjoy that as long as I can. Of course, it's not as shocking to me because my grandfather lost his jaw to cancer, so I kind of grew up seeing it.

I think they could have included more footage of interviews, skits with Gorilla, and commentary. I think the documentary was sort of like a longer version of a Hall of Fame induction video. I want full interviews with the Heenan Family, Brother Love show, etc. I want full skits with Gorilla from Prime Time Wrestling, esp the Wild West skit. I want more commentary gems. A full chapter of his best quips from the commentary booth. I just feel it was too short. Too much tease clips and not enough full fledged segments. Disappointing for as awesome as the Brain is.

Bobby's health is not good so it was no surprise not to see any new interview footage. Why they didn't use more archive footage, I have no idea. He did do a couple of interviews with them over the years.
I've been looking forward to a Bobby Heenan DVD for years but I have to say this was extremely disappointing. The documentary wasn't bad and had a lot of great footage but was less than fifty minutes long. I think it was the shortest one yet. Now, I agree with a previous poster that as a manager/commentator, you can't expect it to be as long as a lot of the previous documentaries. But are you telling me they couldn't make it at least a full hour?
On top of that, they recycled a ton of special features from other DVD releases. This DVD should have been three discs long, contained all the Bobby Heenan Show episodes, and featured more Heenan/Gorilla moments in the special features.
Interesting bit...the woman and her daughter at the end of the Busch Gardens Prime Time Wrestling episode were Heenan's wife and daughter.
Here's hoping they one day release a Best of the Heenan Family DVD. I think that could be potentially great.

I marked out seeing Big Bully Busick taking little Heenan's popcorn and dumping it on her head!!!!
Hilarious. I've already rewound it a few times.

I thought the documentary was a bit short, but it got the job done. The bonus features were good, but again there should have been more.
Surely the WWE knows about the infamous WCW Worldwide Hacksaw Jim Duggan match with Heenan on commentary. For those who never have seen it, go watch it on Youtube now!

I loved the DVD, but as pretty much everyone has said, it could have been so much better. It almost felt like a sampler to get you ready for the actual release. I enjoyed everything, but it's just put me in the mood to see more, including stuff that seems like a natural for this release that are nowhere to be found.
Still, I'm just thrilled that they actually released a Heenan DVD. And either my local Wal Mart is extremely slow at getting things on the shelf, or it has sold well here. I went in yesterday and bought the only copy, and during a brief stop today, I went by to take a look and there were none.
