I didn't even list Wolverine in my top 20. Yeah....I'm one of those guys. I'm pretty sure we were only supposed to send our top 10s in. And not putting Wolverine in the Top 20 is just being contrary for the sake of being contrary. I didn't list him either. Early 90s Wolvie was one of my favorites. But he also became every writers favorite because he could sell books. At times he's almost seemed a parody of the character he was. He's not the mysterious dangerous loner he was. Now he's over exposed and with so many different angles half the stuff he does is counter to everything that made him popular. Sometimes it seems he becomes the focus of what should be team books at the detriment of other characters development. As a whole adding Logan generally turns me off a book anymore. The only thing remarkable about Wolverine to me as how much further he can jump the shark. I mean when they made a newer X-men animated it was titled Wolverine and the X-men. They made no secret that the other characters were just along for the ride.

Same here, except slightly fixed for my own thoughts on the matter. He's not even close the god that the writers and fanboys make him out to be, yet there are characters no-sold that are truly unstoppable that Wolverine should never even be able to TOUCH, much less defeat. He wasn't in my top 10 either, and I wasn't being contrary. I can acknowledge his value early on, but this character is a shadow of his former self and just flat out freaking annoying to even lay eyes on.

Everyone has the right to choose their own favorites, and its interesting to see how it plays out.

Seems like a lot of us don't love Wolverine. I really liked him in the mid 90's, but since the first X-Men movie they've really oversold him. Instead of X-Men cartoons now we get "Wolverine and the X-Men".

I didn't make a transformers list but I don't see the comparison. Optimus was always the leader of the autobots and the most important one. Even the Bay version Optimus still acts a lot like the G1 Optimus would. Wolverine started as a villain. When he joined the X-men he was a fringe member filling the role of Canadian in the multicultural second team. When they started fleshing the character out he was an anti-hero and a crappy team player who had to be brought to heel and forced to work within the constraints of a team. He was barely a good guy at times. Now the antisocial loner is on 15 teams. The authority bristling rebel is leading teams. The short fused borderline animal is the voice of reason and always the good guy. He's closer to John Cena then Optimus Prime. In the movies the Jean/Scott relationship was replaced by Logan/Jean. In the animated series the wise old mentor looking out for a group of outcast youth isn't Prof. X its Wolverine. In the Magnaverse it goes farther Wolverine is the founder of the X-men. In the Ultimate universe Cable is the future version of Wolverine. It's a little much. I don't begrudge anyone who does like him. More power to them and more material for them too. I like my characters less Mary Sue.

Every time you see Transformers anywhere, it's more often than not a picture of Optimus, just like it is with Wolvie and the X-Men. The sentiment I'm getting is that people don't like that about Wolverine because they feel that the other characters suffer when the focus stays on Wolverine. My point was, the Transformers franchise has centered almost all of its marketing around one character as well, Optimus. (And more recently, Bumblebee, I guess.)

I kinda see your point but to me Optimus has always been the face of the Transformers. Wolverine became popular as the anti-hero non team player and thats the Wolvie I liked. I think to make the comparison Ironhide would have to be the BFF of Spike replacing Bumblebee, be the jive talking hip guy to replace Jazz and then be the head of the Autobots to replace Prime. Ironhide is pretty popular based mainly on that he's one of the few bad ass fighters on the Autobots, but noones felt the need to push him into that next level thankfully.
