Watching it for the billionth time on Adult Swim right now (well the first episode) and I figured I'd start a topic.
I love this show. I cannot say enough positive things about.
Appreciate!

Recently watched it for the first time. Definitely one of the more interesting things I've seen in awhile.

Is Adult Swim rerunning it again? Awesome, I'll have to check it out next week. I've got the Ultimate Edition DVD set, but it has problems playing for some reason.

Yeah, when I saw an ad for it the other day on Adult Swim, and had to tune in. Even though I own the full series on DVD. No matter how many times I watch the series, I never fully understand it...... Mostly, if you see something, assume it's related to puberty or sex.

I really, REALLY wanna get the series on Blu Ray since it was recently released. Some of you said you got the more recent rerelease, does the set have any special features?

Well I get the symbolism for sex and puberty, it is just.....everything else that isn't a symbolism for sex or puberty that I've yet to fully get. That and I keep recognizing more and more things each time I see it.

I can't help you there I'm afraid, I have the original release. Those have art galleries, creator commentary (which is subtitled), bloopers, that sort of thing. The DVD cases also have listings of all of the music in the show.

"Extras include Director Commentaries Videos with Music by The Pillows "Ride on Shooting Star" Video by the Pillows Outtakes Textless Closing Song Trailers" On the back of the case. Doesn't seem like a whole lot, I was just ecstatic that they rereleased the thing though ;D

It showed me that a shotgun is the best weapon a giant mech can have.

Absolutly hate the show.
Now, I'm not going to go in a thread like this and just say that and leave. So allow me to explain.
FLCL is basically the ultimate example of style over substance. For the style part I'll give it credit, it definitely captures the pop-punk style very very well.
The problem is, the story is very obviously rushed. The main character hops around from love interest to love interest with no real rhyme or reason. His interactions with haruko further highlight this with him hating her every being one episode, to him falling in wuv the next.
The main character hopping from one girl to the next only further hurts the show as none of the relationships are given time to develop and we don't really spend enough time with the characters to fully understand them.
And the whole weird "this is an anime so we have to make it like an anime" craziness just obfuscates things further. In fact it turns the story into a complete mess.
Now is it the worst anime ever? No. Bleach still exists. But it's just an anime filled with missed opportunities that people seem to like since it has fantastic style. You can make excuses and say "oh it's metaphorical" but when it comes down to it, it's not going to save the show.

When did THAT happen?!?!?!? DAMN! I know what I'm doing with my first paycheck when I get my new job!!! I loved this show so much one of my old gimmicks on here was as Commander Amarao...then again, I really don't think A Goofy Movie is that good and look where that got me . I have the DVD, but it's pretty scratched up plus i'm not sure how legit it is (cover looks like it was made in a cheapo program, typos and grammar errors all over the description...and i'm talking "All your base"-like errors). Not to mention some of the content is cut, even from the Adult Swim airings (the 5th episode with all of the parodies and tributes is cut down by about 5 or 6 minutes, and include cutting the South Park scenes and I believe the Matrix-esque fight). Absolutly hate the show. Now, I'm not going to go in a thread like this and just say that and leave. So allow me to explain. FLCL is basically the ultimate example of style over substance. You can make excuses and say "oh it's metaphorical" but when it comes down to it, it's not going to save the show. I'd have a hard time arguing those points honestly. I took his jumping from love interest to love interest as just part-of-the-show really. No underlying themes or anything metaphorical, that's just the show in general. I love it for the style and the humor personally. I come from the camp that the story isn't that serious in the first place honestly. I mean, I don't see how you can take the story of an anime with that kind of style and humor so seriously. Not saying you don't have a point, I think your view on it is well justified. If any show's story isn't good to you and you don't have much of a taste for the style and humor or enough of one to get over the other flaws, then you got a right to hate it. I got those shows myself (ALOT of Toonami's anime after DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho fits there for me...Outlaw Star, Tenchi, Gundam Wing, etc.)
