Having seen Thor last week I'm even more psyched for Cap and Avengers.

I feel the opposite. I like that he's a fan of the comics and has written them before in addition to his film & TV work. That could potentially bring positive things to the table as far as this movie is concerned. He's never written for The Avengers. Joss wrote an X-Men comic. A pretty good one, even if he essentially retconned Xavier into a horrible human being. Which is frustrating, but at least the quality as good. But The Avengers? Nope. Only thing Joss has ever contributed in comic-book form to those characters is suggesting the ending of Civil War. Which is a strike against him, given how bad that ending turned out to be. He may do a good job, but he has NO track record with writing these characters for a sustained period. He's still written comics before, and knows the superhero world like a fan does (even if you take issue with some of his ideas or story choices). That's different than an A-list director who knows nothing about superheros taking the job. That was my point.

I'm excited. I love The Avengers Hopefully Joss chooses Ms Marvel as the main female character who he'll inevitably focus on since I'm a Ms Marvel mark

I'm really not all that fussed about the Avengers movie. Never got into them as much as X-Men, Batman or the JLA.
Now if it was Samuel L. Jackson narrating a trailer for a Cassandra Cain movie, then I'd mark.

I love the Avengers and got giddy at hearing that, but I'd be even more happy if Samuel L. Jackson wasn't involved.

I'd guess the disagreement I'd make is that Joss has knowledge of the characters, but no track record in dealing with a cast of such big name actors on a level like this. And you could make a case that Chris Nolan didn't either, except Nolan - at no time - was making a film specifically for the geek majority. He made his film, his way, and didn't pander. Joss has the tough task of pandering to the geeks, uniting all the elements, withstanding the meddling of Marvel Studios and fending off the giant egos of a cast used to being the lead characters in their own films.

I'm hoping since all the origins, etc are being handled in other movies, The Avengers will just be crazy superhero action for the most part.

And my Wheadon comment had less to do with his "feminism" or comic book experience, and more on the fact that the dude has a nasty habit of killing people off, especially those designed to just piss people off.
