It's amazing how many blind jokes they got away with.

It's amazing how many blind jokes they got away with. I'm actually interested to know how Toph's character was seen by the blind community. Generally disabled characters (like any minority group) get a lot of flack for being portrayed in a crappy way. But considering how highly Avatar is regarded for its portrayal of women and non-white people (...movie doesn't count) I'm wondering if they did well with the way they handled Toph, and that one Air Tribe kid in the wheelchair too.

I would hope they like her. She is one of the more powerful characters, outside of situations where she is too out of her element, so to speak. I also think she is one of the most popular in the fandom, so I do hope they see her in a positive light. Well, not SEE her, but you know what I mean.

It takes a lot to make blind jokes work... they made it work.

^ You'd think Toph would have been able to tell that Sokka had stopped walking... Wait, unless I think I might remember that she had trouble dealing with the sand in the desert? I can't remember!
I love it when she messes with them though.

I love it when she messes with them though. Yeah, she couldn't use her bending to see on sand that well because there's no solid rock, just loose particles. So that really messed her up.

That's what I thought... And that was why they were able to capture Appa, wasn't it? It's been almost a year since the last time I watched the series! Some of these details are fuzzy

She also had a lot of problems when in the finale, they are on the airships.

True, though it still impaired her a lot. I imagine the fact they're motorized made for a lot of vibration interfering with her senses. Sokka was needing to do the bulk of the work there.

I'm legally blind and I think the creators did a great job with Toph. Many of the things Toph had to deal with were similar to things me and my non-sighted friends had to deal with. I also liked that Toph's blindness wasn't a factor all the damned time.
