Met Elliott Smith after a concert years ago. Right before his tailspin really started to hit hard.
Also, met Joe Frazier in a local bar once. He had quite a posse, but I managed to get his attention with the magic phrase: "Hey, CHAMP!". Gave me a big smile, a really complex handshake and an autograph and left the place like 10 minutes later. I'll never forget shaking his hand, as it was liking shaking hands with a stone. That's how hard and rough his palm was. A jive handshake from the hand that knocked down Muhammed Ali: priceless.

MANY musicians - too many to name. Bill Clinton George W Bush (more of a in passing than actually meeting) Various UK politicians and "minor" celebrities whose names I've forgotten. Think reality TV stars etc.

I saw Lorenzo Lamas once, we locked eyes across a crowded room. It was magically romantic. ...Well the last part may be a slight exaggeration. Yeah I guess I win least impressive celebrity encounter.

Pretty much every player in the history of the Tampa Bay Rays franchise, save a few lesser names. Had a few beers with former Rays pitcher Scott Kazmir at Ferg's in St. Pete near Tropicana Field once, which was pretty cool.
Warren Zevon. I was just a kid, so I couldn't really appreciate it as much at the time, but I can remember him being very nice, shaking my hand and asking if I enjoyed the show.
Big Boi of OutKast, at an Atlanta Braves game.
Marc Summers, former host of Double Dare.
Tony Little. Yeah, the Gazelle guy.
Ziggy Marley. Won't go into any further detail here, because the story might break a rule or two we have around these parts.

I beg to differ. I met Gordon from Sesame Street at the local kid's fair when I was little and shook his hand. And for MMA fans, I've also passed by Tim Boetsch on at least two occassions. He runs a MMA school in my town, which was like 12 blocks from where I used to live. I've never talked to him, though, I've never followed MMA and when I mentioned it to a friend of a friend who's a big fan he mentioned he went to college with him at Lock Haven. It was also a bit odd, as I didn't even know who he was before reading a piece in the paper with a photo. I just remembered him from the fact that he looked like he could easily beat the crap out of anyone around here.

Also a basketball player (Pistons) and a Vietnam veteran/photographer. The names elude me, right now.

Used to do the baseball card circuit when I was in high school, so met a few guys that way, but nothing beyond a hand shake and "nice to meet you". Beyond that, uh, George Stephanopolos right after he left the Clinton administration when he did a speaking engagement I was working. Good guy, and very friendly.

Clive Barker-met him at a con. Later on that day saw him outside have a cig and walked and and talked to him for a few minutes.
Todd Macfarlene-Biggest jerk I have ever met, ended up throwing some comics at him and storming off.
Rob Liefeld-Very nice guy.
Nikki Clyne-Cally on the new BSG super nice and very very tiny in person.
Gary Graham-Fun guy to talk too.
3 doors down-from my home town and use to go see them play the local bars. Sadly they now seem to have completely changed.

Quite a few, but Girls Aloud stand out - I got Cheryl and Nicola drinks once, Nadine threw up in front of me, and Kimberley almost killed me by opening a swinging door and crashing me against a wall. Went to swing for her, then realised who she was.

Stan Lee Frank Miller George Romero Adam West Julie Newmar Lee Merriwether Yvonne Craig Robert Englund Barry Bostwick Alan Ruck Andrew WK Billy West The entire cast of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre
and many others I can't think of off the top of my head.
The nicest, by far, would have to be Weird Al Yankovic and Kevin Eastman (TMNT co-creator).
