A monthly fee to play map packs is still freakin' ridiculous. A 1-time charge is now a monthly fee. Nope. Ain't swallowing that 'round here.

I can't believe the overall reaction to this. It actually shows how crappy some people's reading comprehension is. A lot of people are thinking that Activision is charging people to play Modern Warfare 3 online. That isn't at all what they are doing. All it really is is freaking Bungie.net, plus access to the MW3 map packs. That's it. Honestly I don't see why anyone is getting worked up about this. I mean I won't be using it, but still, I'm just amazed at how many people are pissed off about something that there really is no need to be pissed off. Now, if they were charging us to play the online, then yeah, that is something to be pissed about, but that isn't the case, so right now any and all bitching about Call of Duty: Elite is quite honestly silly and unfounded. Thanks for pointing that out, mang... I hadn't noticed. You're totally right, everyone is behaving like a herd of spooked cattle, and I am one of them. Further proof nobody reads my posts

Ok, Kotaku was given an advance look at Call of Duty: Elite. This is their article about their experience. It basically explains what we have to look forward to so far. How Call of Duty Elite Works, and Why You Might Be Paying For ItReading that actually makes CoD:Elite sound pretty damn cool. Cool enough to spend a monthly subscription on? Not right now for me, but I will definitely be using the free version for the stat tracking, which is freaking INSANE! They even freaking keep track of the locations of the players you killed and where you were killed on a given map in a given game mode. Not even Bungie.net goes that in detail.

I know this is the Internet but it'd be great if people could actually get all the information first before throwing a bitch fit.

Reading about it, it seems decent. I do like the level calculator idea & the map layout thing showing you where you died.

No it's not. It's f***ing stupid to charge people money for things that should be included in the base price of a game. That's the way this works now. This is Activision greed at it's finest, and if you expect people not to bitch about it, or assume the worst from Kotick, you've gone mad.

So its basically a subscription service which combines Bungie.net/COD Combat Record (both free), with MLG/Gamebattles (both free), with COD challenges (free in Black Ops), with Theatre Mode (free in Black Ops), with map packs (which are overpriced).
SCORE! DAY 1 BUY FOR ME!

This is Activision greed at it's finest, and if you expect people not to bitch about it, or assume the worst from Kotick, you've gone mad. What part of CoD: Elite, might I ask, should be included in the base price of a game? Did you even read what it does? What part of what it does does any game include in the base price of a game? And once again, we don't even really know what people are paying for. So far the only thing Activision even hinted at you getting for paying the subscription price is the map packs, and so far the only thing they've said is for sure to be part of the free edition is the stat tracking. We do not know what people are paying for yet, or even how much they are paying for that matter. So yes right now it is silly to be bitching about this because we don't even know the full f***ing details about it! Everyone complaining about it is doing it in a knee jerk reaction. I mean hell, just look at all the people that heard Activision was doing a subscription based service for the Call of Duty series and instantly thought they were charging people for online, they didn't even bother to read what Call of Duty: Elite was, they just instantly assumed it was the online Activision was going to be charging for. And let's be honest, this really isn't all that different from Bungie.net, because let's not forget folks, Bungie.net also has a paid subscription membership, but you don't see people flipping off the walls going batshit insane over it. Granted all Bungie.net's paid subscription does is give you more storage space for videos you can upload, and 6 months of the service is $5, but still. I never thought I'd see the day where I would actually be playing the devil's advocate for Activision, but until we know more about the service, everyone should just calm the hell down.

I'm just gonna be open and honest: I hate the CoD franchise so any chance I get to rip on it, I do it.

I'm one of the most outspoken opponents of Activision on this board, but there is just nothing for me to rip them on for Call of Duty: Elite. They haven't said anything so far about the service that just screams, "Usual greedy Activision bullshit!" to me. If anything, it is one of the least Activision things Activision has done in recent memory.

I mean, they've been making what's practically the same game every year. I think they should just add these mechanics and use it as a selling point so I'm not screaming "SAME OLD SHIT", not charge extra.

It isn't like the paid subscription is the only option here.

I know that, but I'm saying the paid subscription stuff should be free, otherwise you're just getting the same game you get every year, which is perfectly fine for hundreds of thousands of people, but not me.
