Wasn't he supposed to win it on the Smackdown that aired the week after his death? I've read that it was going to Orton instead since Batista was injured, and it was supposed to be the Smackdown the same day of his death, not the following week. Actually, a lot of people wanted Orton to be the next belt holder (including myself)...but this was still when WWE decided not trust him since he still had a lot of personal demons. Although, it seemed that they were going to push him to win the '06 Rumble. Eddie was to win the belt on the next Smackdown taping due to Batista's injury. Other rumors say that belt was going to be changed at a house show, but I doubt that. I will say that the Batista-Eddie feud could've been one of the best.

I always remember reading that Viscera and Mideon were supposed to win the tag titles in 1999.
Also, there was a rumor that Vince wanted to bring back Hogan for another title reign around the time "Rocky Balboa" was released.
On an earlier note about Rikishi, he was so over as a face in 2000. It's a shame that heel turn pretty much made him a mid carder for life. He could've been a good champion for a two-three month period in 2000, maybe feuding with HHH and Angle.

If Bret had his way according to Mick Foley, Austin or Mankind winning the WWF title after Survivor Series 97. Bret in his book mentions dropping it to Shamrock as a possibility

Not so much a rumour as hopeful fandom.

Rikishi was mainly comedy around that point. Don't get me wrong, he was treated as a credible threat in the midcard and the heel turn killed his momentum, but I don't think Rikishi was ready to be taken seriously just yet. I'd have him slowly evolve out of the dancing gimmick around mid 2001(if the injury and heel turn didn't happen) and get more serious in the process(LIKE PUTTING ON SOME PANTS). I'd have him win the title sometime in 2001 if I was going to put the title on him. Oh and Jake Roberts was rumored to win the IC title in mid 1987, but he got injured.

This was the plan Bret thought was going to happen, but Vince was pissed that Bret wouldn't drop it clean, not even to somebody other than Michaels and thus the screw job was born.

Even though Jeff eventually won it, it's come out of Hayes mouth himself that Jeff was basically going to win the MITB at WM 24, but he got suspended, blah blah blah...but it would of been fascinating to see what his complete "big plans" were.

Acording to Wiki, Muhamed Hassan was supposed to win the WWE title at some point I remember hearing about this, the story could have been so awesome too. Orton costs Taker the match, and Muhammad Hassan would go on to face Batista for the belt at SummerSlam in Washington D.C.Oooooh that would have been cool.

It was probably just a NEWZ bit.
But one story I read back around 2000 was that Foley was going to win at WrestleMania that year, then retire the next night and put the belt up for grabs.
