I've never got why Main Event has to = SRS The Rock wasn't exactly what you'd call serious with his cheesey jokes, catch phrases and put downs and he is, along with Austin and Hogan, the most popular wrestler of all time. Likewise, Kurt Angle was always a bit of a goof but he still managed to become a main eventer and was always taken seriously as a threat. I was thinking about this earlier today and it seems that a wrestler can be goofy in the midcard, has to become serious to get to the main event, then once there can be goofy again. Remember Rock vs Mankind at the Rumble when he was still a fairly recent champion? Then later he became more of a silly face. Austin was super serious coming up, but once he was established he could be silly sometimes (playing guitar and singing). Jericho was never very serious until he became undisputed champion. I think Kurt is one guy who stayed fairly goofy all the way to the title, but then years after then he became SRS with the ankle lock and bald head and later the mouthguard and black gear in ECW. I think it just comes down to how talented a guy is perceived to be. If Swagger was pushed as a bit silly (pushup entrance, chest beating, Eagle mascot) not only would he be very over and more interesting, he'd still be taken seriously as long as he was presented as one of the best wrestlers in the company.

How about Mick Foley, who was been funny onscreen for pretty much his entire career, even when in WCW he was meant to be a killer heel trying to destroy Sting.

The Swaggie used to taste like freedom, now it tastes of bland SRS.
