I didn't hate Matt Hardy until he turned into an attention whore who did everything he could to get out of his WWE contract.

Matt Hardy acts like a thirteen year old girl (why I dislike him) and is unimpressive in the ring (why it wasn't hard to dislike him)

I think with some people its also a case of bemoaning a loss of potential. Hardy was a guy for a good two/three year period who was a reliable and persistent singles performer who with the right combination of luck and hard work seemed like he could maybe become world champion some day.
Between his injuries, weight issues, inconsistent in ring work, and rather... interesting online antics, I think it came across to a lot of people that a good opportunity was being thrown away. While not entirely Matt's fault, on some level it definitely appears that his focus and priorities are on settling personal scores and sharing his complaints rather than simply being a good wrestler.

Vastly inflated ego in proportion to his actual importance to his field is what annoys me. And a secondary irritation is what he SHOULD have been, back around 2004/2005. He should have been the breakout star of the Hardys. Now, he's a raving lunatic who's just past it. It's sad to watch.

06-08 he was really on his game. He was having great 15 minute matches every week on Smackdown, and then was moved to ECW and did the same thing. After he lost the ECW title it just went downhill then he went nuts. It's a shame he was actually a good in-ring performer until he lost his mind.

Because Matt's made it clear he actually reads what's written about him on the internet, and genuinely gets upset by it and calls out his critics on his twitter and his YouTube channel.
It's not so much hatred as people delighting that they've got a semi-important figure in the wrestling world who actually jumps and takes the bait when he gets insulted.

I don't have any problem with Matt Hardy the person, I just try to ignore him.
But Matt Hardy the wrestler frustrates me immensely, from the fact that his promos are nearly all counter-productive (they always made me more desperate to see him get beaten down) to his weak looking offence (double ax handle from the second turnbuckle, really?) to the fact he walks around the ring like he's wearing a soiled nappy... I just see him as a bland, mediocre lower mid-card talent at best.

He has such a strange relationship with the Internet and the wrestling fans that populate it. He lost his job because of comments he made on the Internet, he regained his job when internet fans started to chant his name and spread the reason behind his firing around to other fans, and now he posts these strange videos and calls people out.

I like him in the ring and I actually look forward to seeing him in TNA in better shape, but he's just gotta get off the internet. Some people just don't know how to carry themselves on the internet and he's one of them. In person I'm sure he's tolerable, I have friends who are great in person but just seem like different people online. He's just makes a habit of stepping out of his comfort zone to appear smarter, more charismatic, charming and witty than he actually is and it just makes him look bad and it's really uncomfortable to watch.

His youtube videos are like a 11 year old girl's.
As he is a 30 some year old man, this makes not want to see him anymore.
I liked his stuff with MVP as tag champs, but after that - it was all rubbish
