Why couldn't Vince have just used the old WWWF name? I always thought that'd make more sense.

To this day, the "Get the F Out" slogan is the most brilliant campaign slogan I've ever heard.

Does anyone have any footage/images of the first "WWE" show? I wasn't tuned in at the time and would love to see how they handled it on screen. I remember seeing one video of a bush in a garden made out of the WWF Scratch logo, which was burnt into the new WWE logo. I think they must have aired that after one of the last WWF shows? Obviously I can't link to it, but footage is available online. You know where to look. What I remember about that night was Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler stumbling over themselves in trying to remember the new name. "Here comes the World Wrestling Federa ... um, I mean World Wrestling Entertainment champion!" JR had a scratch logo WWF shirt on for crying out loud.

I know WWS would look weird, but at least it would sound alot more like WWF, and they could have easily still used the logo they use right now.

I missed the opening and never heard the news that day, so when I flipped on Raw, I wondered what the f*** was wrong with the "bug" on the screen.

It's suck that they can't use WWF Attitude era logo, of course.
But you also have to remember that World Wide Fund was fair enough, because at the time WWE didn't have to destroy all WWF merchandises, that would have costed a lot of money. That also meant that they didn't have to censor home videos like The Rock: Just Bring It or Triple H: The Game. Those DVDs only got that WWE logo on the corner, but the footage itself wasn't censored.

I couldn't be bothered to read the whole article, but since they can still use World Wrestling Federation and not the initials, I wish they would have kept the name, but just called it something like "The Federation" like they do on stuff referring to those years, and avoided initials. At least that's what I thought at the time, I'm so used to WWE now I wouldn't want it to change now.

That would have been a better way to go as well.

I will never understand why the ruling of an English court affects a U.S. based company.

I will never understand why the ruling of an English court affects a U.S. based company. I didn't read the decision or the relevant caselaw, but I assume this is either a result of international IP laws, or WWE having to make a choice between having a different logo for European marketing and a different logo for the US. They might have found it easier to just change it universally. Vince wanted to expand into movies anyway, so World Wrestling Entertainment did make sense. EDIT: Just looked at the decision. This all stemmed from a contract that WWE entered into with the WWF, which was governed by British law.

I will never understand why the ruling of an English court affects a U.S. based company. It's because their 1994 agreement was signed in England.
