Just watched the opening match on Superstars and I've noticed over the weeks that Stanford's improved but tonight kinda blew my mind. He noted Yoshi was trained by Yuji Nagata (pronounced correctly and everything) and then called a Japanese armdrag and a crucifix pin correctly (along with many other moves) and even referenced the Uso's original debut promo. I said when he first debuted a month or so ago that he had a good voice but he didn't seem to know anything about wrestling. Well he's done his homework and he's gotten pretty damn good.
He also just noted during Smith vs. Regal that DH's dad Bulldog faced Regal at Halloween Havoc 93 which was a cool fact so of course Josh proceeded to give him shit about it. STFU Mathews.

He had me amazed one week when a week before he called a Northern Lights Suplex a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, he then correctly called a swinging fisherman's neckbreaker, catching Punk completely unaware. I think he is really trying and it's good to hear.

I like the guy. Maybe my overall favorite commentator now that Punk left the desk. Speaking of Punk, his first night of Superstars commentating had one of the funniest things ever, when Stanford said Punk was 'just like' his wife. The look on Punk's face was hilarious.
He'll be re-educated in the ways of entertainment storytellers, and hopes and dreams will die.
He hasn't already? The guy isn't some smark who is dropping insider knowledge. He's just calling moves he knows and doing his homework on wrestlers. He's no different then Punk or Striker except he won't drop some obscure musical reference or movie line.
Anyway, i like the guy because every week he seems to get better. And it doesn't seem to matter if it's King or was Punk. Hell, King was happy that he called a Saito suplex correctly. I do see him being used in the future on either Smackdown or Raw. Dude has natural talent at announcing. He just needs to fine tune it.
I saw (well, part of) Superstars last night for the first time since Stanford's first or second show and was also shocked by how much he's improved. I came in during the DH/Regal match and the Havoc '93 footnote dropped my jaw. Also he was so much more confident and natural with his knowledge and calling of moves, whereas he seemed rather unsure of himself last time I'd heard his commentary.
I loved him. He's had the voice, but now he's got the knowledge to augment that great voice. Also, like Hitogoroshi touched on, he's really unobtrusive in that he's not trying to spotlight himself or put himself or John Cena or whoever over the match, as the WWE's other announcers have a predilection for doing. I like him a lot.

He just "sounds" like a real announcer. Like someone you would here doing an ESPN alternate game or something. I really like him.
The thing I really hated was Josh crapping on everything that he said. It worked when Punk did it because that is his character, but it was really off putting when Josh did it. Not just the Halloween Havoc comment, but Josh was making sarcastic remarks when Scott called the moves accurately.
That being said, I thought Striker was even worse to Jack Korpela. He acted like he was working with a 10 year old. When Jack would try to converse about Tyler Reks or something going on in the WWE during the Masters/Reks match, Striker would say whether it was a good or bad comment, like he had to approve of any questions before answering, instead of just conversing with the man. I know Stiriker is kind of a heel or something, but he was acting more like an ass.
