I was talking to my friend a day or so ago about the WWE & it's PG product and we got into talking about Punk. Then it hit me, Punk's character at times resembles Charles Manson. Think about it, we have the now defunct, Straight Edge Society. The followers, Mercury, Serena & Gallows had shaved heads, Punk "the leader" had the long hair & scruffy beard. If you look at old news footage of Manson during the trial for the murders, you will see Manson looking scruffy while his followers had shaved heads. Punk was called and still is sometimes referred to as "The Straight Edge Messiah" and Charlie always referenced himself as the "Messiah" of the Manson Family. We also have that one time on Raw of Punk actually wearing a Manson t-shirt. Yadda Yadda Yadda, I submit one more piece of evidence The CM Punk "Salvation" shirt That image of Punk bears a strong resemblance to this pic of Manson ===================================== So my question is; is Punk's character a jab at Charles Manson, is Punk really a follower of Manson or am I just looking to far into it lol.

Punk also wore a Charles Manson shirt a few weeks ago on RAW, indicating he is pretty much aware of the comparisons.

Nah...you're not looking too deep into it. The similarities are there. If you know your history, which you seem to, you could definitely see it. I remember a quick throw-away promo that Punk did, and marking pretty hard when he said something to the effect of "The Straight Edge Society will not cease to exist". "Cease To Exist", if you remember, was the song Manson wrote for The Beach Boys which they then re-wrote and re-titled "Never Learn Not To Love". Also... They're both Superstars.

...For a second I was wondering why you'd posted a black and white picture of Brian Pillman.

Maybe he should incorporate other meanings for "C.M." into gimmicks. Chick Magnet Cookie Monster (he could dress in blue and be obsessed with baking!) Child Mol- um... nevermind. It's a bad idea.......

I'm pretty shocked it took some people so long to get that part of it. It seems exactly like what they were going for the whole time during his SES days.

Yea, it was brought up here quite a bit during the SES run. As far as the initials go, I choose to believe they stand for Chicago Made. That's why I changed my screen name from Dazz to CM Dazz. Both because I'm a big fan of Punk's and I'm "Chicago Made" too. I know Punk has given plenty of different answers in the past. He told the Chicago Sun Times that it stood for Chicago Media.

His newest Basics t-shirt bares a striking resemblance to the Manson shirt he wore a couple weeks back too. And this topic gives me an excuse to post one of my favorite Punk moments of all time: {Spoiler}

Punk has obviously patterned himself over the last year similar to Manson. The shirt was a dead giveaway to his interest (I don't want to say 'fandom') of the guy. Wow, it's like a Punk look timeline.

Elijah Burke gave it away as Charles Montgomery a few years ago, even though Punk never admitted to that deciphering.
Charlie Manson though...on the spot.
