....game series? Checking out this article; www.vg247.com/2011/07/19/loving-femshep-biowares-first-lady-finally-steps-forward/I came across an interesting stat. My first playthroughs in both games and with the file transfer I'll be using for Mass Effect 3 have been with a female Shephard. Why? A number of reasons; 1. The voice actor for FemShep is just so much better than her male counterpart 2. The future setting and biotic abilites make it possible for a female to be just as powerful as a male in theory 3. I love bad ass Charlie Angles style line ups. For instance, my favourite line up in ME 1 was Shep, Liara and Tali and in ME 2 was Shep, Jack and Kasumi 4. I love the dynamic that goes with having Shephard female for their relationship with Wrex. Dunno, just seems cool, plus Krogans consider their females to be very strong too. 5. Yep, I'll admit it, I like the fact you can have hot lesbian alien sex. But the romance options as female Shepherd are for the most part more fun to play But mainly because I had always wanted to play as a strong female protaganist and Mass Effect lets me do that. What did you pick for your first playthroughs, or for the playthrough which you consider 'canon' for your own personal Mass Effect saga?

Male, 'cause playing as FemShep is just too weird for me.

My current Shepard is male, but the first playthrough was female. I think it's worth it to play through as both simply due to the fact that Jennifer Hale is an awesome actress.
Also, I still think it's bullshit that you can be a lesbian as FemShep, but not gay as DudeShep. Though I've heard they're fixing that for ME3.

I agree with you, though there were plans in the first game that a Male Shep could romance Kaidan and a Female Shepcould romance Ashley. They recorded lines for these and even had cutscenes for the love making scene (sort of); Guess BioWare got cold feet about it and scrapped those plans

Yeah, they said that DudeShep can have gay relationships for ME3. The response has actually been pretty positive, except for a couple dumbasses saying that it's gonna "destroy continuity".

Thing is, seeing as how male Shephard only went after females in the first two they can just say he's bisexual instead of gay. Its not really the same thing.

Both. I have 4 characters, 2 male, 2 female, waiting to go into Mass Effect 3.
Yeah... I REALLY like Mass Effect...
Although looking at the question, I was Male first. And by and by, I've never considered my female Shepard's relationship with Liara to be a lesbian one. Nothing against it obviously (you should see what I get up to in Dragon Age), but its always made clear that whilst they look female, they're technically genderless. A technical note perhaps, given she looks and sounds female, but one I always thought of note.

Two paragon, 2 Renegade. One with everyone surviving the suicide mission, One with a few dying, One with a lot dying, One with almost all of them dying. All different romance options etc. Hell, I could have 20 different playthroughs ready for Mass Effect 3 all with completely different scenarios.

No, I'm not sexist, I just didn't think it through. First playthrough was male and is my canon Shep...even though I lost four people. Second was male and testing out the Renegade options. This is my "asshole w/ a heart of gold" playthrough. Third was my female one, with Paragon. Fourth was male with Renegade. Full on bad-ass.

I play as FemShep for a few reasons:
1) Jennifer Hale's voice work is just amazing, simply amazing. 2) I actually was able to make a FemShep that looked good, as opposed to my DudeSheps, who always look hideous. Thus on the rare occasions that I play DudeShep, it is always the default look, as at least he's easy to look at. 3) I tend to pick a female when given the chance, like in multiplayer games with different player skins, I tend to pick the female skins, or in RPGs, I tend to make chicks, or in fighting games I tend to pick the female characters(because they are often the fastest characters). Really the only times I didn't when given the option is Halo: Reach(because I wanted Nathan Fillion's voice to be coming out of my helmet and being a chick wouldn't make sense) and the Elder Scrolls games(because the chicks are actually uglier than the dudes in that series, though Skyrim looks like it fixes this). 4) And lastly, I gotta be honest, the Mass Effect games can be long(though I have cleared ME1 in 13 hours when I don't give a shit about the side missions and just go straight main storyline), and letting my maleness show, I'd rather watch a chick's ass for hours on end than a dude's ass.

I have a paragon male soldier Shepard and a renegade male vanguard Shepard. I got a few more Shepards to make, I might make a female just for the completionist in me but I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much. I'm a real pussy when it comes to going renegade. My plan with my last run was to go pure renegade but there are certain parts that I just can't commit to. I eventually just turned him into a good guy anyways, mostly renegade but not as much as I hoped. {Spoiler}I don't think I'll ever have it in me to kill the rachni queen for one We'll see if I can do it next time.

I have a lovely Renegade female Shepard.
Also, I'm totally going to gay romance Garrus in ME3. NOBODY WILL STOP ME.

It actually varies, but there was no "both" option. For some reason, my paragon runs are always male, and my renegade runs are always female.

So much so that I had to wait to for the comic to be released on the 360 so I could make that choice for my second (and male) renengade run through.

Male Shep. Then again, I only played a few hours of 1 and the demo of 2.

Female primarily, like the female VA alot better, she could do serious and joking very well. The male shep just sounded far to serious all the time.

Biggest fan of the series (I know) says "The female sux!"
She (the gamer, not the character) is a girl.
Very geeky girl.

Femshep. Male Shepard is far too monotone for my liking, whereas Jennifer Hale is brilliant. Plus, on the one occasion when I did go with a Male Shepard in ME1, the romance I wanted wasn't available due to Bioware's cowardice.
