Calling the winners of certain non-World trophies "World Champions". The teams may be american but the players on those teams, especially in baseball and basketball are the best in the world, pulling the best players from around the world to play here. So in that sense "world champion' is justified in those sports. Baseball for example, currently there are players from 15 different countries playing in the majors, and over the course of it's history players from 42 different nations have played the game at it's highest level. Therefore, one can see why it's the World Series.

Yeah, the English Premier League has world class players from around the world but you don't see them call the Premiership champions the "world champions". Same with the Italian Serie A, the German Bundesliga and the Spanish Primera.

Well, if there are players considered to be world class playing in four different countries they couldn't call it "world champion" could they? That is my point. Almost to a man all the world class players in baseball, american football and basketball play here. That is why they are world champions. If we were to call our soccer league champions world champions It'd be a joke. I think this entire issue is one of those knee jerk "omg look at how arrogant those americans are" things folks just don't think through. If your league contains an overwhelming majority of the worlds best players in that sport your champ is a world champion. If it isn't, it is not.

The World Series has had 42 nations represented in it's history. The Premier League currently has over 60 Countries represented. And that is for one season. As stated above, you could make an argument that the Top Flight Football Leagues in either Italy, Spain or England have the best players in the world. To my knowledge, none of those teams have the audacity to call themselves World Champions. The team that wins the Champions League, which contains the best teams from all the European countries, still doesn't call themselves the World Champions.

No-one else in the world care about Baseball or American "Football"*, so they have to call the champions World Champions to pretend it was anaccomplishment to win. *Why is the game called Football when the main way of transporting the non-balled shaped object is by carrying and throwing it? I hate America!

Again, if three different countries have world class players each nations champion couldn't be a world champion. If an american, canadian and mexican league boasted about the same amount of world class players it couldn't be the world series. but that isn't the case. And champions league contained an overwhelming amount of the worlds best players I'd have no issue with them being world champions.

Honestly, if folks wanted legitimate reasons to hate my country the phrase "God Bless America" and all the arrogance behind it would be a much better place to start. No. Just.......no.

Why is the game called Football when the main way of transporting the non-balled shaped object is by carrying and throwing it? Yeah that's my main problem. And I even hate football. Yours and ours. Ok I hate sport in general.

That is a well reasoned, thought provoking argument, thank you. Dude, if we have this conversation, both of us will be banned, & most likely this thread will be deleted. So DON'T[/b] start this.

The Champions League teams are better than the teams from the other continents, but the winner of the Champions League don't call themselves "world champions" even if they are the best team in the world. It's not a world competition, hence no world champions.
