Something I was wondering about. I rarely hear much on the subject of inter-gender wrestling (Kaufman aside), and what I do hear usually holds to the belief that it wouldn't be very believable (please don't kill me, that's just what I hear).
So I was wondering, are there many female wrestlers out there who seem like they could be a credible threat to a male wrestler? And has there ever been any serious attempts at intergender pro wrestling?

Japan at least once before had a 108 person battle royal that had some women in.
I think Isis could be a credible threat to men.

Depends on context. Sara Del Rey and Daizee Haze are treated as equals, more or less, to the men in CHIKARA. In Chicagoland-based AAW, MsChif is one of the more over midcard babyfaces. In a company like WWE or TNA I can't think of anyone right now other than Amazing Kong out of the American scene who could really pull it off without evoking uncomfortable audience response. Even in ROH right now, Sara Del Rey would be hard pressed to be a partner to the Kings of Wrestling in a 6-man match against a team made up of 3 men. I'll leave Japan/Joshi to our resident experts.

Honestly, I've never had a problem seeing women as a legitimate threat. I guess this comes from who I am as a person, and the fact that I regularly physically attacked guys while I was in high school (...I don't advocate violence, I was at a bad place in my life). I also did martial arts for years until injuries stopped me, and I worked competitively with men. Being female never seemed to be an issue or make an impact on my abilities.
I think that most of the women on the US indy scene who are big stars are well respected enough to be seen as legitimate threats, even Daizee Haze in all her tininess. The biggest problem I think comes from the audience feeling uncomfortable seeing a man hit a woman, but from what I've seen them do with CHIKARA they seem to handle it really well and the audience doesn't seem too appalled by it.
I think it's way easier in the indies, where the treatment of the female wrestlers by the general fanbase seems to be a LOT more respectful than in WWE and TNA.
Within WWE, you have Beth and Nattie and hopefully Kong coming up.
TNA has... Yeah, nevermind, I don't like thinking about TNA's Knockout division.

As mentioned, SDR and Daizee Haze in Chikara. Though I do like it when Quack roughs Sara up.

Chyna, Beth, maybe Natalya, Kong, Isis, ODB, Jazz.
And maybe some smaller scale wrestlers like Trish, Lita, Molly, Victoria, Taylor, Mickie, and Melina.
Madusa never seemed believable to me, personally.
