Have him continue to lose every week until his father comes out and says he's a disgrace to the DiBiase family name, disinherits him, and gives the entirety of the family fortune to Brett. Ted Jr. then says he doesn't need Daddy's money to make it, and sets up a feud with his brother who, from what I've heard, has some charisma and might be able to pull off the spoiled rich kid gimmick.

*Takes breath* ...why not keep him in the lower-midcard for a couple more years, give him a chance to develop his ring work and mic skills, and use the excessive amount of time that's been wasted trying to prop him up as a breakout star to push someone who's actually ready to move up the card, like Truth? Wow, this must be, like, the fifth time I've reposted this comment. Every few months, there seems to be another variation on the exact same "How should Ted Dibiase Junior be repackaged to finally get him over?" thread, which says a lot about how successful he's been. The situation has actually "improved" in the sense that WWE no longer seems quite so determined to position Dibiase as a major, future superstar. But still, losing or not, the fact remains that Ted appears on WWE's A-show every week and usually gets mic time, when a fair number of the Superstars regulars could provide far more entertainment if given that same bit of screentime. Ted doesn't need to be given a new gimmick to get him over. Ted needs to be bumped down to wrestling McGillihennig or whoever on Thursday nights until he improves enough to deserve a push; and if he never does, then he ought to either stick to working as talent enhancement or look into a different line of work.

I have been thinking it would be best to try and make him look as much as his father did style-wise, with a beard, and feathered hair, though I'm not entirely convinced he can even grow a beard. Seems to be taking a while

Any reinvention must first begin with getting rid of that theme song.

It kind of sucks to be him, because TWO other guys, both of whom are main eventing Smackdown right now, kind of (unintentionally) cut his legs out from under him:
Del Rio is doing "spoiled rich s***head" with money to burn and beautiful cars, women and luxury WAY better than Ted, and
Ziggler is using the Sleeper as a finisher, both of which Ted would need to TRULY bring back the "M$M" gimmick.
I say have him bottom out....literally, as someone suggested earlier, be disinherited and lose EVERYTHING. Kind of take the "Shawn vs. JBL" aspect, and then you COULD feud him with Del Rio, where if he loses, he becomes Del Rio's personal manservant. As expected, you put Del Rio over Ted in a heated, competitive match....so now TED is someone else's Virgil. After a few weeks of humiliation at the hands of Del Rio, if Ted cannot gets the fans to at least root for him to sock Del Rio in the jaw....he's a lost cause. If, however, he CAN get the fans behind him, you run with that program, and let it build to a huge match at say, SummerSlam where Ted can win his freedom, and let him unload on Del Rio.
Hey, that storyline made people back in the day give two s***s about VIRGIL. If Ted can't make it work...he's done.

It's just annoying to me that WWE is so unbelievably short-sighted in their booking practices. There are at least five guys who are dead-in-the-water right now, as far as heat goes, who are easily salvageable with a little foresight and clever booking.

I said it once and I'll say it again, once he finds his niche I'm going to be laughing my ass off when you're all singing his praises. Me too. He's one of the most ridiculously under-rated wrestlers I've ever seen. Most people seem way too quick to write him off. I see a lot more potential in him that guys like Cody Rhodes. I agree. I think Ted got the bad Carlton treatment where he wins a title on his debut and there is no way for him to go but down. I think Cody has better psychology but I think Ted has a better look. I would honestly like to see Ted get the riches to rag gimmick and become face. Then down the line I would have him become a success and get back on his dads money and start a Money Inc stable with Whindham Rotundo(Husky), Bo Rotundo, Brett DiBiase, Michael Tarver as the Virgil, and Mike Rotundo in his WCW Wallstreet gimmick as the manager.

I mean, I thought Cody was the more talented of the two way back during Legacy, but even I had to admit that Ted was getting some serious crowd support when he was about to turn on Orton. The guy isn't meant to be a smug heel, he's meant to be a sympathetic, hardworking young guy trying to work his way to the top. I love the idea that was laid out above about him being cut off and Maryse needling him. That would've been terrific.

Id give him a sassy gay friend gimmick. You know running in the middle of matches and yelling "Youre a stupid bitch!" or failing that him trying to build himself an escort business, recruiting divas as his "hoes".

You know running in the middle of matches and yelling "Youre a stupid bitch!" or failing that him trying to build himself an escort business, recruiting divas as his "hoes". DiBiase becomes a pimp? Like, the Godfather? It's bad enough Del Rio is usurping DiBiase's gimmick, but this would be pure "Crap" that R.D. would be relishing somewhere. I've been one of the naysayers about Ted for about...I'd say 2 years. When he was doing the Legacy thing, they were getting a lot of heat during the Cena/Batista vs. Legacy mini-feud that took place in the Summer of 2008. I also remember the near-face turn in early 2009. After Wrestlemania 26, Ted went completely downhill. Yet, there he is, every Monday at about 9:15 PM, coming on and trying to become a solo heel star. Nothing doing. Ted needs to get rid of the money gimmick, now. People don't personalize it or care as much in our society about money or status the way they did with the Million Dollar Man, and fans certainly don't care what a rich man's son has to say today. If you're gonna let him keep the money, at least he should be like the Joker in The Dark Knight, a cruel heel who promises jobber heels a payoff for his bidding, before turning on them too. He needs a killer instinct, and he needs to have that edge that his father had. His Dad (like many of the larger-than-life characters in the WWE) seemed overly confident, but almost crazy. Ted needs that spark.

I"m not sure on any of those gimmicks, but I think anything out of 'rich kid' would work. Once Cody broke free with a gimmick that wasn't like his fathers or brothers, I think he really started to shine. To me, Ted's being doing a tired rehash of his fathers with not nearly enough success, I know they're in the middle of his turn, so I'm hopeful that he'll pick it back up eventually

I remember when he first came out, and I thought, this guy has no personality at all. He's like Tim Duncan in a coma.
I won't write him off, but in a fake sport, if you have no charisma, you'd better be one hell of a in-ring performer, and Ted seems to be an average wrestler.
But I find Randy to be one of the most bland, boring wrestlers on Earth, so if he can be pushed to the moon, there is hope for 'ol Ted.

Make him face turn by having him start giving away money to charities, promos of him going to remote countries to help the locals out etc. make him the anti-spoilt rich kid. Ted Sr for a month or so returns in the attempt of returning him back to his old ways etc, fails, so Sr either brings in Brett or another second/third generation star as his apprentice and starts to brutally assault him in matches, backstage etc. Keep the feud going for a couple of months and see where he is with the crowd. If the crowd dig it keep him as the honest, kind babyface, otherwise go with the swerve and have him forcefully take away everything he gave to the charities/communities , turning him into a mega heel.
Probably too risky for PGWWE, but just something off the top of my head.

Make him a Taliban sympathizer. He can threaten to blow up every arena he goes to, but each week somethis comical happens to prevent it. He can even say his experience in the Marine 2 turned him against this country.

How about he goes by a symbol, calling himself the Artist Formerly Known as Ted Dibiase Jr?

"Candy Man" Ted Dibiase
Gets escorted to the ring by Hornswoggle with orange facepaint and green hair, has purple attire, gives defeated opponents chocolate baths or turns them into a blueberry.

For those who never got to hear the pop during the Orton match (From WWEFanNation) This was one of the most botched storylines in recent memory. Orton was being SUCH a dick, but Cody and Ted looked like such chumps that eventually they couldn't even be salvaged. Hell, Cody needed a totally fresh start on Smackdown to be taken even somewhat seriously. Simply throwing a hot chick by Ted's side has done nothing for him. Least logical of all, somehow they managed to use all of Orton's abuse of Ted and Cody to turn ORTON face. So stupid. This video is proof that they had a window to work that angle the way it was intended. That RKO (among other things) blew it. I don't know that Ted, at this point, will ever get past that if he doesn't start being booked to look like less of an idiot. It's almost WCW-esque. If you want people to care about a wrestler EITHER WAY (face OR heel), you can't book him to look like a total moron/chump/sissy. Unless you're going for the comedy route. And Ted is definitely not Santino Marella.

Everyman gimmick. He looks like an average Joe if you ever saw one. Have Maryse swindle all his money, and create a sympathetic babyface out of him.
