so FCW came back to my neck of the woods. it was part of some summer tour and they had a 2 hour fan fest beforehand. I got there about 50 minutes before bell time and things were still going. they had some band playing and the only way to describe them is a quote that this little boy said to his father....."I wish that rock band would stop playing."
while this was going on they had new FCW Champion Bo Rotunda taking pictures and doing the autograph thing. they actually printed out every photo that was taken and gave them out at the end of the show for free. Kaitlyn, AJ and Naomi also did a signing on one side of the building while Ricardo Rodriguez did one with the FCW Tag Champs on the other side. the main autograph draw was William Regal, the line was way too long and I didn't have anything to get signed so I let everyone else have their fun.
Ricky Steamboat was also in attendance, I guess working with the FCW kids but he was more than generous with fans who came up to him and took pictures, shook hands, autographs, the whole nine yards.
As I was coming in I handed my ticket to this guy and he asked who I came to see. I told him I didn't know who was there and he said "His name is Bobby Dutch" and I quickly recognized him from the website. I thought it was a nice touch.
Show opened with Roman Leakee going over Brad Maddox. Maddox had some gimmick where he brought out a little spray bottle and posed while misting himself.
Next match was Hunico and Epico going over Rick Victor and James Bronson. At the beginning of this match Ricky Steamboat started to loudly boo the heels, I guess to help the fans realize who to cheer for since that was hard to tell in the opener.
3rd match was a comedy match with Donny Marlow taking care of Ricardo Rodriguez. Ricardo definitely has the possibility to be a star. He continued his ring announce gimmick, downing everyone he saw as he walked down the aisle but in Spanish. I caught a few words here and there.
In lieu of an intermission they had a few of the students come out and take part in a singing contest. My best friend Bobby Dutch took his shirt off and cut a heel promo on the crowd refusing to sing. Jason Mullen wins the contest with an acapella version of Ice Ice Baby. The best part of this was Husky Harris heckling all of the guys. A large portion of the locker room emptied to watch the segment
Let's try to shorten this a bit. Derrick Bateman and Johnny Curtis fell to the tag champs. Conor O' Brian went over Mike Dalton in the worst match of the night. AJ won a Divas Battle Royal that saw Aksana attempt 3 pinfalls. They gave one of the girls (can't remembe her name) some mic time at the beginning which led to her charging AJ, Kaitlyn, Naomi and Aksana and eliminating herself in the process.
In the match of the night Seth Rollins successfully defended the FCW 15 Championship over Dean Ambrose. Rollins even hit a dangerous high spot even though the crowd was small. Good selling by both men because we honestly thought the match was about to be stopped afterwards. Rollins wins 3-2, handshake fake after the match with Ambrose smacking Rollins in the face.
The main event was Lucky Cannon and Damien Sandow taking on FCW Champ Bo Rotunda and Xavier Woods. Sandow had a good heat-getting gimmick, informing the crowd to NOT take any photos of their entrance which led to endless flash photography blinding Sandow in the process. Match would have been better but they dragged out the beginning, which included both Sandow and Woods singing because of the prior singing contest. The good guys take this one again.
All in all it was a fun time for an early Friday night for only $20. They even gave everyone a $5 off coupon for the show in Orlando on the 22nd that I might make a trip for.
