...are EXACTLY the same as the first three notes of Benoit's theme.
As noted in the Raw thread, it's uncanny.
It can't not be intentional; Benoit's theme was distinctive and iconic for sure, though perhaps it could be Jim Johnston just trying to salvage a distinctive theme in a way that doesn't bring up bad memories.

I looked it up, and I don't really hear it. Similar notes, but not really at all the same.

Thank you! I could not figure out what theme that sounded like. I always like Benoit's first theme. Didn't his tron have "Crippler" and like pictures of torture devices or something, it always went too fast for me, even in SmackDown 2.

Is it me, or does the backing strings in the song remind anyone of that "Don't Try This At Home" promo music that the WWE had on their DVDs in the mid 2000s?

I don't hear it. I mean, it's a similar distorted guitar sound but...it doesn't sound like Benoit's theme at all.

It's not the same. The strum pattern is close but it's not really close to Benoit's IMO.

It sound's more like Darren Young's once single entrance theme than anything.

Yeah, as a musician I really don't hear much comparison.
I hear the comparison to "Hero" by Skillet, however.

Rhythms and pitches are all limited, so at some point there will be themes or rhythmic motifs that will sound the same as previous themes, or perhaps songs you already know. That's just the way music works. I don't hear the similarity anyway. It just sounds generic.

I'm also a "musician" and I also don't think it's similar. I guess if you like...changed the rhythm and the actual notes..

Sounds more like the opening riff from "Crazy Train" to me.

It's not similiar. Benoit's song was a bunch of opens/power chords and then some harmonics in the beginning of the song. Both the original and the "cover".
