Looking back on Luke Gallows' debut, his story's actually kind of disturbing in hindsight.
Did they mean to imply that Jesse was controlling him with drugs the whole time or was that just sort of an unintended gaffe?

I think the idea may have been that Jesse was trying to help him, for one reason or another. Which is actually kind of creepier.

We need Jesse to help him again. Luke Gallows sucked ass. To be fair, while he got into better shape, lacking the fat made him less imposing. Also, they did not play to his strengths, often pitting him against Big Show, making his size kind of a moot point.

I think he just got retconned because it made sense in the storyline. They also could have said the Obsirian Portal hypnotized him and forgot to bring him back, so CM Punk got his indy connections to fix him, but that would be convoluted.

I think it was more saying that Gallows was Festus because he was on drugs and his family/friends enabled him and didn't fix the problem, which kept him as Festus; once Punk stepped in and aided Festus in removing the drug issues and removed him from enablement, he became Gallows.
And about him being put against Big Show all the time- Gallows is a big guy, and should have been shown as a credible threat against Big Show, not as someone Big Show can easily shove around. I still hate that they didn't do that.

the thing is Festus/Gallows has been in an institution for a long time. He actually met Kane there and was so nuts he actually scared him. So thgat's why Jesse had to give him the drugs. Until Punk convinced him to stop taking them.
It was just a matter of time before he snapped you know. That's why Jesse left WWE. He may not have seemed as tough but he would'vew snapped eventually

All I know is that they still have 2 Festus action figures left at my local Rite Aid drugstore, selling for $12.99 apiece (the only 2 WWE figures I've ever actually seen there since I started taking monthly medication, which was roughly a year and a half ago).
I really think they oughta just cut their losses and mark them down to dirt cheap. They'd sell if they were like, a buck each.
Because I'd buy 'em both!

Wow, I never realized they acknowledged that Gallows was Festus.
Ya, I gotta give Punk credit there. He was certainly doing a lot better with Festus/Gallows than Jesse was. And Punk was a heel? He turned that guy around!

It's disappointing because Slam Master J was still on the roster when Gallows was introduced. I really wanted to see Gallows attack him.

He turned that guy around! I was surprised by this too. I thought WWE would have separated the 2 characters.

Mick Foley talked about that on Smackdown when he was on commentary. He thought Jesse was enabling Festus' behaviour.

Maybe they have a limit on small masked guys.

Come to think of it, what was the Slam Master J transformation? Cryme Tyme took him under their wing in Word Up segments and he debuted the character on a SmackDown in August 09 in a match against Charlie Haas to deafening silence.

I always wished that they'd done a promo where CM Punk accused Jesse of drugging Festus' biscuits & gravy.
