I know there's exceptions like the Bellas and Beth Phoenix, but in addition to a bunch of the roster, majority of the NXT girls have been stripped of their surnames when arriving on the main shows, and I'm pretty sure both Eve and Rosa went to just being Eve and Rosa over the past few years whereas they had last names before, and before she got released Jillian was just being called Jillian.
Is it supposed to make the women more interchangeable or something? 'Cause I honestly can't think of a good reason you'd want to make your performers less distinct and identifiable. Then again, this is the company whose idea of an extreme makeover is giving a wrestler a buzzcut and black trunks, so who am I to guess.

Don't most of them have last names? Other than the NXT girls, they just alternate on adding the full name or not when they talk about them.
Rosa, Eve, Beth, Michelle, Gail, Alicia etc. all have last names, they just don't say the full name all the time. That'd get kinda annoying during a match.

True, many of them have full names, even if they are not used much.
I think part of it is that most of the names are kind of boring, but a lot of it might be a lack of investment by the company. Easier to replace the girls who fail.

Some people say that One name adds more mystique. And most "Divas" in real life are only referenced by one name cause that's how famous they are.
Though I'd like to think that WWE is just pretty much too uncreative to think of any good last names. It's usually their real last name, or a good one that that means they have to always say the whole name all the time.

Because if they had last names they might be mistaken for actual people.

Because you become friendly with someone you don't just keep calling them their full name. We know Eve Torres but just call her Eve because its easier. AJ Lee, Maryse Oullette (sp?) have the same situation as Eve. Bella twins, Gail Kim, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, and Rosa Mendes. They get referred to by their full name all the time. It is what it is and I think its a complaint that has little weight

Its kinda the opposite with the guys. They get referred to with their last names. Cena, Orton, Morrison, etc.
However, none of the divas have that gimmicky name like Undertaker, Kane, Big Show, CM Punk, etc.

They still say Eve Torres whenever she comes out, Justin did it last Monday.

I think it’s because that’s how trashy magazines and tabloids refer to celebrities, it’s just a shame that’s one of the few current trends that WWE have embraced.

It really started getting bad with NXT. Naomi, AJ, and Jamie all had last names prior to NXT. I mean Naomi and AJ I GUESS I can see being stand alone names, but JAMIE?! That name's too common to be on its own. Not only that, but she had a freaking last name on officially WWE programming before this! Hell, Cole even kept mentioning her last name since it made no sense for her not to have one. Kaitlyn should have one too. The only problem with AJ not having one is most people think of AJ Styles when you just say AJ, but she somehow got on with her real name (Lee's not her real last name), so it's actually cool I guess.

Maryse's last name is probably too hard for people to pronounce.
Melina's last name would have gotten in the way of the "MNM" acronym.
"Kharma" doesn't need a last name, because anything that follows that interferes with the name's impact.
The rest are more of just random occurrences than anything else.

I think Kaitlyn should get the last name McPherson. I don't know why. I just think she should have the last name McPherson.
