We need someone to call Vickie fat. Well hell, just hire back Scott Steiner and stick him behind the booth. Oh I can smell the "Double Standard much, IWC?" threads coming a mile away.

Better yet, stick Scott Steiner on Smackdown alongside Booker T and Michael Cole. Can you imagine those three together? The yelling would be unbearable! Hell, I don't think I'd be able to handle watching that show anymore. ;D
Anyway, I don't really have a problem with King. I mean, yeah, he is a pretty bland commentator and has been for a while but he doesn't do anything that bugs me.

It doesn't matter how little of a s*** he gives and how absolutely weak his commentary is, because all the fans know and respect him and he can always get a nostalgia pop for being a pretty cool older guy.
I suspect he either is aware of that and takes advantage of it or he's burnt out and is just there for a paycheck.

My biggest gripe with Lawler is his CONSTANT harping on Vickie. If it's someone higher in the company's idea of an inside joke or something....its stupid. His remarks make me instantly mute ANY Dolph match, which is a huge disservice to Dolph, IMO. Also none of what Lawler is saying about Vickie jibes with their current "anti-bullying" campaign. But then again, neither does having the Bellas in the ad itself, so......yeah. The anti-Vickie stuff is likely just Lawler doing what he's told. I'm sure in WWE's opinion, Vickie is still too "fat" (hell even Mickie James and Nidia were). And besides that, she's a massive heel (no pun intended) and Jerry's a big babyface.

I hate that little annoying "WOOHOO!" he does whenever Kelly Kelly comes out.

I hate that little annoying "WOOHOO!" he does whenever Kelly Kelly comes out. That's nowhere NEAR as bad as the stupid s*** he used to say about the divas back in the Attitude Era. I was a teenager and I thought he was being retarded

Lawler on commentary is pretty stale, I agree. But I was shocked by how likable he still is when he's feuding with someone, and effortlessly so. If he calls someone a coward, for example, he infuses it with such conviction and gravitas that it suddenly becomes a powerful salvo, where other wrestlers would have to be a lot more creative.
So, in some ways, he's still got "it." But not on commentary. I like the idea of him as a manager, though... he could probably do really well there.

My major problem with Lawler is that, as the baby face announcer, the dude really sucks at defending the faces. When him and Cole get into debates, Cole just talks circles around him. That's why I vastly prefer the team of Cole/Matthews or Cole/Striker, because they are better at standing their ground with arguments.

I think it's for nostalgic purposes, but I agree, his commentary is not what it use to be.

Jerry was and is a great babyface wrestler but he has to be able to beat the guy's ass that he's feuding against at some point and have that be the end of it. Andy Kaufman did the job for him in about ten seconds, I still don't understand why Cole had to beat him and "keep his heat" at Wrestlemania. At least they seem to be slowly forgetting about the whole thing.

I can't stand him either.
I thought he was on his way out with the Miz/world title storyline.

I haven't been able to stand his commentary for years. I guess they just keep him around out of seniority. He would be better utilized backstage or as a manager.

Bottom line: Vince likes him. Lawler loves his job.

Bottom line: Vince likes him. Lawler loves his job. Yep, and I think most WWE fans still like Jerry too. Despite the way the majority here seem to feel about him (it almost seems to be some kind of anomaly).

Bottom line: Vince likes him. Lawler loves his job. Pretty much. For all the flak Vince gets, he's very good at returning loyalty with loyalty, and Lawler's been Vince's man for a very long time. McMahon's not going to put someone like that out to pasture, so to speak. Plus, Lawler's still pretty over, as has been said.

They could easily get rid and not even worry about him going elsewhere. Imagine Lawler trying to commentate in TNA? He has a hard enough job commentating on a match involving Smackdown guys because he doesn't watch anything else.

(Subtitles; it's going to need subtitles.)

The past few years of listening to King sans Jim Ross has really made me realise how much JR carried Lawler.

It's sad to see a guy who was once GREAT on the mic be just so bad; though largely that seems more the case of him just totally phoning it in rather than losing skills.
He's been progressively worse every year since replacing Heyman, and it's just sad now.
Part of it, I'm assuming has to be without J.R. there he REALLY doesn't care. It shows.
