The absolute pinnacle of Cena hate, outside of Edge's hometown, was probably Wrestlemania 22. Still one of my favourite crowd interactions with a match of all time. One Night Stand 2006 says hi.

I think people started seeing through Cena after he won the U.S. Title at Wrestlemania 20.
He stopped rapping, had awful feuds with Rene Dupree, Chavo, Booker T and the naff Jesus. I think people wanted to like him still then hence why his win over JBL was mostly greeted with positive reaction.
Once he moved to RAW though and faced guys that older male fans wanted to see succeed like Christian, Y2J and Angle that was it. People had tired of him, they gave him a chance but he wasn't what they wanted. He was just what the kids wanted.
