Is it possible that we just all think Taker is badly broken and beat up. I know he has taken his fair share of punishment of the past 20 or so years but, the guys at home longer than any Terry Funk retirement lasted. Surely he can feel somewhat better over his months and months of breaks to pull of decent match once or twice a year. This is basically my thoughts on it as well. I would think you'd be able to come up with some sort of appropriately psychological mania match, being a bit protected...then go rest for 12 months even in bad shape.

If Taker could still go, he'd still be going. I think it's that simple. No arguments about how beat up he is or how beat up he isn't. He's at home, there's a reason.
I think he's always been smart enough to realise when he's better off at home and he's at that stage. It'd take a real talent disaster before he came back week in week out.
They're doing the right thing wrapping him in cotton wool because the streak is one of the biggest draws at Mania, and 20-0 will be the biggest draw yet.

I am pretty sure if Ric Flair didn't need the money like he does he would of stopped wresting a few years ago, then having to be in the 2nd rate of TNA. My point being is that Taker has been doing this a long time and doesn't have to go out on the road to prove himself to anyone or try and make more money, so why wrestle? He doesn't want to be that guy still wresting week end and week out against Kane, because he doesn't have too. Everybody talks about how beat up the guy is, but you never hear newz or reports about him having surgery or he can't do anything.. The last match he had with HHH at wrestlemania was pretty amazing to say the least for a guy who supposedly beat up so much that he has to take a year off between matches. If the guy is so beat up why would WWE even have interest in using him to wrestle if they could possibly have a death on their hands because of it. ;D I know he left the match on a stretcher but this is the WWE how many times have we seen a guy wheeled out on a stretcher Taker has put in his time in the business enough and made VKM enough money to where he doesn't have to worry about a thing
