Mark Henry's recent unexplained heel turn reminds me that occasionally they'll do a turn, usually from face to heel (but sometimes the other way also), but provide no reason for it. What are some others?
Even today, I have no idea why Paul Bearer originally turned on Taker. Being "sick and tired of being sick and tired." makes no sense even today.
Jimmy Hart turned on Hogan in WCW for no reason to manage the Dungeon of Doom.
Melina turned heel by slapping Natalya for no reason.
Randy Orton turned face because of fans, but no real reason besides that.

Hell, didn't Mark Henry turn face two years ago and that was never explained?

Matt Hardy's random heel turn on Lita who he had JUST been reaquainted with on television, then his equally random face turn when he saved Lita a few weeks later. I don't think any of that was explained. It was just awful booking.

Was Booker T's face turn on JBL ever explained? Booker turned heel when drafted to Smackdown because he thought it was the "B" show, and was kind of a bastard heel thereafter until he randomly turned face on JBL to face him for the title...

I can kind of accept that, since everybody should be after the title

Both of Austin's turns in 2001.
After he turned heel at WM, the only explanation given was that he alligned himself with Vince "as an insurance policy". After the Alliance was defeated at Survivor Series, Austin was suddenly back to being a face for no reason whatsoever.

One that always stuck with me was Reno Riggins, one of the more higher profile jobbers from the early 90's. One week he was a baby face getting beat up by DiBiase, the next he was a sneering heel getting beat up by Brutus Beefcake. Granted they didn't have to explain it for obvious reasons but still it was just weird.

What about 'Taker's initial face turn? He saved Macho and Elizabeth from Jake for no discernible reason and all of a sudden he was feuding with Roberts.

Granted they didn't have to explain it for obvious reasons but still it was just weird. Maybe, before his match with DiBiase, he was a happy-go-lucky underdog babyface. Then, after realizing that he didn't have the right skills to make a name for himself, he became bitter and wanted to take out his anger on the super-popular Brutus Beefcake. He still lost.

When Viscera turned heel and joined Charlie Haas after he Warrior'd Lilian Garcia off the ring. His reasoning? "I know why I did it, but I don't need to tell you fans". Hmm.

I went to a house show in the early 90s where Reno was a face in the opening match and a heel in a tag team match later. He got the crowd behind him for the first match and against him for the second match. That is TALENT.

You have to remember the sit down interview with Jr, Rock and Austin, where Austin said "I *need* to beat you Rock, I *need* to be WWF champion" The Raw (or Smackdown, cant rememberwhich show) after 'Mania, Austin explained that his comeback after being run over was one of the bigger ones in wrestling history and that he wanted to make damn sure he didnt blow his shot at the title. So he turned to Vince.

Jimmy Hart turned on Hogan in WCW for no reason to manage the Dungeon of Doom. I never really got Jimmy Hart's earlier face turn when he managed Hogan and Beefcake around 1993. Hart had been encouraging his wrestlers for years to hit opponents with his megaphone yet suddenly got all moral when Money Inc used a briefcase.

Morrison's face turn after being drafted to Smackdown. He basically became a face because The Miz turned on him. IIRC he even wrestled a match on ECW as a heel after that, and then when he appeared on Smackdown he was a face suddenly. No explination at all.

Off topic, but rapidfire, that guy in your sig was at WrestleMania 12, and was ALL OVER THE PLACE in Anaheim.
He looked like a troll at the autograph signing that was held that weekend at a baseball card shop, at the charity softball game, and outside the arena.
That dudes face is burned in my retinas.
gah.

HAHA, I always loved seeing him on camera when I watched WM 12 as a kid. I know he's been shown a few times in some of the fan pics threads. I think it's hilarious that you saw the guy in person, and it's even funnier if I imagine him making that face all the time.

They were playing up that due to his injuries, Beefcake could actually die from such a strike. Hart realized that they were going too far for once.

What everyone remembers and what stood out is that he came out on RAW the night after and said "I don't owe you an explanation" which always seems like lazy writing.

It does, but yeah, the cards were all in play, it's just that many people missed the point.
