I don't expect a match on Raw until at least a half hour in at the earliest.

Blurry Former Hell's Angel Guy: Taking last known photographs since birth. why have i been seeing UFC then??? uhh Time Warner? Admittedly I haven't watched Impact in a bit; so they may've switched back to UFC. For me it's been straight Blurry Former Hell's Angel Guy. At least it was a couple months back.

WWE is the same way. I just want wrestling Didn't watch Monday's Raw with about 78% Wrestling, I see? ell, it started with a battle royal. Now that they're post-Mania, the lack of wrestling on the E isn't as bad.

Seriously, I know we say this time and time again because it's a wrestling program. But isn't impacts lead-in a UFC show? They have the chance to keep those UFC fans watching if they'd just start the show out with a 5 minute match. It's called ratings retention. Working in the TV news biz just makes me mad everything I see the oppurtunities IMPACT is just shrugging off. RANT OVER Eric: Let us tell you something, Mr. MBZ. Obviously, you never have been in charge of a multi-million dollar operation- Hogan: Or slammed an 800 pound angry giant! Eric: Riiiight.... So clearly, you'd never understand how to put on a good wrestling program. If you don't start with a 20 minute promo about how wonderful all the heels are, how will you bore your audiences into changing the channel?

Aren't they just following the twelve year old Monday Night RAW formula of starting off with a big promo segment?
I get they started last Monday with a battle royal but that was ridiculous. They didn't even do any entrances. You think they'd at least have the announcers start the show.
That's WWE and TNA's problems. They go right into it. They should open up the show like it was a real sporting program. I know it isn't but if they really want people to watch that is what they need to do. They need to stop doing this "wink wink haha we know you know it is fake" bullcrap.

Why single out Bischoff for something that has been treated as "recieved wisdom" since 1998? Then again, things that worked in 1998 are all Bischoff knows how to do

I have mentioned this in other threads but here's the problem: WWE first used the whole 20 minute promo opening when Russo was writing the shows. Russo is now currently writing TNA's shows, and thus the whole basic format of Raw is more or less what Impact uses. Just using an old WCW format would be a change, with matches and in ring promos scattered here and there.

Raw does this all the time too so let's not single anyone out. "But Raw started with a battle royal this week!?" Great but it"/ just one week.
I also feel like TNA should star impact with wrestling but let's not pretend they're the only ones who don't.

I still can't get over how lazy tna's entrance videos are. I get that they don't have the same resources to spend on something that minor like the WWE, but stil if that's all they are going to do with it why bother?

Starting with a match wont retain UFC fans.
Trust me, as a devout MMA fan, I deal with a large number of "BUT WRASSLIN IS FAKE AND GAY DERP" MMA fans. TapouT shirt and all.

The problem is that with TNA, the opening promo always involves the same group of people. If you don't want to listen to Hogan / Bischoff / Immortal, you can just skip the first 15 minutes of the show without missing anything of interest. WWE at least mixes it up.

Now that they're post-Mania, the lack of wrestling on the E isn't as bad. Honestly, if the answer is 3 minute matches involving BOTH the I.C. and U.S. champion jobbing like 2nd rate stars, then I'd rather have a Raw full of promos and save the wrestling for the PPVs. The average match on Raw does nobody any favors. At least Smackdown is usually good with their booking.

Even if every Raw started with Linda McMahon squatting over a camera lens and taking a dump for an hour, I don't see how it would negate the point about TNA. The two exist independent of each other (in theory).
Impact should start with a match. It will have a slightly higher chance of retaining viewers than the same old promo stuff. Wah wah but Double Double E do it too. So what? I didn't realise TNA's goal was to be the same as WWE.

Its always the same problem: fifteen years ago, people were stuck in the past when it came to booking in a new market.
Surprise, surprise, they still are, but now they're stuck in 1998 as opposed to being stuck in 1985.
Why? Because all the same people are around, in both big companies.
